Default Possible relocation to Barstow.....

Hello all,
I have an interview for a job in Barstow coming up next week... My wife and I were looking at homes in Barstow and Victorville. We need your help on some advice on where to live. We are an outdoor kind of family. We don’t like the big city, but we don’t want to be miles away from our neighbor. We have three kids 8, 5, and 4. We would like to live in a nice neighborhood with a good school system. We are willing to rent a house at first and then eventually buy. The top of my rent I would like to pay is somewhere around $1200. The most important things for us are; children’s sports, good schools and a good community. Thank you in advance for all your input…

My husband lived there part of his youth and knows that area well. It is not the greatest place to be in SoCal (to put it lightly), but you can still find decent areas.

He says you should look near "The Heights" and stay west of Barstow Rd, but North of Rimrock rd and also any of the alphabet streets (i.e. J, K L but stay North) and North of hwy 58 there is a small community. You are going further away from the main drag or hustle and bustle of the city but nicer areas and houses. There are some slums in Barstow so be careful and goodluck.

You could easily get a rental for $1200 or even less probably.

Victorville isnt bad either if you are up for commuting.

Go for Victorville if you can stand the drive. LOL the Home Depot in Barstow was delayed opening for a couple months because they could not find enough employees that could pass a drug test. LOL.

BTW, its a drive, but if you need a second income, find someone who works at Ft. Irwin. You have to sort of be juiced in(just going through the gs system will not work) which is why you need to know someone who already works there, but there are TONS of jobs there paying $30-60K(more if you have particular skills)....lots of G4-G9 or so. But its a haul to get out there and you gotta be a clean straight person.

From my experience, if possible pick an area east of Victorville in the high desert, like Apple Valley or Lucerne Valley. Those areas are closer to highway 247 than Victorville. That highway takes you to Barstow, and there's probably less traffic on it than the 15.

Barstow is lower in elevation than the high desert areas, so it'll be about 3 to 5 degrees warmer in the summer months.
