Temecula to Buena Park Commute
Will be moving to Temecula this summer and making a daily commute to Buena Park in OC. What is the best commute route? What is the best times of day and how long should I be planning for? I hear the Fast Track saves much time, but would like to hear real experiences. Thanks.

Where do you work in Buena Park? I work at Lincoln and Valley View. I am moving to Corona and plan to take the train to BP station. You could pick up the train at North Main in Corona. That would cut down on the milage on your car. I have a friend that lives in Temecula and works in BP. She says you have to get on the freeway by 3:30 - then it is a little more than an hours drive.

We're moving to Temecula possibly this summer as well, and my wife will be making the same commute. We weighed three routes really:
1) Drive it. We've been told about 1h30min to get from Temecula to BP leaving at 530am using the Toll Lanes
2) Drive to North Corona Main Metrolink station and take it to the Buena Park Metrolink station. She works nearby, so that helps. Problem is that there seems to be only two direct trains to BP in the morning. It seems most of them have train switches at the Orange station. $199 for a monthly pass. From the Temecula Pkwy exit, this is about 30-40min depending on early morning traffic from what I've heard.
3) Drive to Oceanside Metrolink station and take it to Buena Park Metrolink station. Direct routes, but more expensive. $330 for a monthly pass. From Temecula Pkwy exit, this is about 40-45min depending on early morning traffic from what I've heard.
We're leaning towards option 2, but would go for option 3 if it was the same price I think. We are dreading the commute coming back though.
edit: And I imagine you could try to take Ortega Hwy from Lake Elsinore to the 5, but I've heard that the commute on Ortega in the morning is about 45 minutes by itself, and would put you in San Clemente. So 20min from Temecula to Elsinore or so, 45min on Ortega, then maybe 45min on the 5?

Owning a house has it's downsides, but it sure as hell beats renting.

Indeed....that is what will ultimately probably cause us to leave state. Couldn't deal with a commute like that, but that is probably one of the only areas we could afford also that is still really nice. More power to you if you can handle that!

How long did it take the universe to be created? How old is God? It takes me sometimes an hour to get from Buena Park to Yorba Linda at around 5-6. Usually 45 min. To get to Temecula, you need to get to the 15. It becomes a parking lot after Lakeview all the way out the 15. Seriously it's A LONG time. Corona is a better bet. Cheap housing, good schools, and a MUCH easier commute. Even though it still sucks, it's way better. It takes about 30 min-45min to get from Yorba Linda to Corona during the worst traffic times (usually 15-20min).

Yah, I love Temecula, but I wouldn't consider living here and going all the way to BP every day. Or having my spouse do it. We'd never see each other! The kids would never see us! Living in a great place is only great if you get to enjoy living there. A commute like that will feel like it's eating up your whole life.

As mentioned, either take the train or forget the whole idea.
