Murrieta or Temecula are still the best choices.

I hate to say it because there are so many good people there but I would not recommend living there to anybody anymore. I'm not sure where your work place will be but I would recommend Redlands, Yucaipa or the Cherry Valley/Calimesa area if you can swing the commute which is (like has been said before) extremely tough anywhere in so Cal. Good luck to you on the move.
Ahhh, good ole Sunnymead. Grew up there, spent a quarter century in that craphole until I moved more than a decade ago to Riverside (before ultimately leaving the state altogether for the Pac NW). There are a FEW decent place left to live, but if I were you, I'd shy away from anything to do with MoVal. As others have mentioned, traffic, smog, gangs all are deterrents from a decent living there, despite any savings you might get on renting a place. All those things are prevalent all over SoCal I'm sure, but I haven't lived in any of the other cities so I couldn't tell you first hand what to expect. Temecula, Murrieta, even the Canyon Crest or Orange Crest area of Riverside would all be preferable, just depends on what kind of rent and commute you can handle..

Good luck..

oops! I forgot to mention that MoVal has what is called a utility tax!!Yep they force all of the utility companies, even cell phone providers IIRCto collect a tax (I don't remember the % as the wife always pays the bills) for the city. I used to get so mad every time this tax would come up for a vote and the spinmeisters would always claim that the city would have to lay off police and fire fighters and the people would freak out and the tax would pass. I wonder why they never claimed they would have to lay off landscapers, dog catchers or city staffers? I don't see this tax going away any time soon either.

I live in Menifee / Sun city. It's hot here in the summer, but it's nice. The crime is not bad like some people think. I've been here 11 yrs and never been a victim. There is much more crime in Temecula, I know that for a fact. Murrieta would be your best choice.

Temecula's crime stats are inflated by a few crappy apartment complexes. For the most part it is a very nice town with few problems other than traffic. It's mostly middle to upper middle class. I know, as I just moved from the area, having lived in both Murrieta and Temecula for the last several years.

Regarding other questions on here, stay away from Lake Elsinore, Hemet/San Jacinto, Perris, MoVal...I'm sure there is more. Wildomar, Menifee and Sun city aren't as bad but are definately HOT.

Vista and Escondido have good and bad parts, but in general not all that nice. I used to live and work in Vista from 1999-2000 and worked in Escondido's downtown from 2002-2006. In general you would be okay there but you definately have to be selective.

As most have said, of all these towns, I would recommend Murrieta and Temecula 1st.

Good luck!

I have never been to Moreno Valley or plan on going, but I knew someone who lived there once and she is glad is away from there. I don't remember what specifically she said that she did not like about it. She did mention they have wonderful donut shops there!

Wondering if you'd consider Rancho Belago? Costs more, the apartments are from $1,300 for 1 bedroom to $2,000+ prices will most likely go up when Trump Group and Benzeevi bring in the million $$ homes but it is close to those locations you've mentioned. Moreno Valley is cleaning up and getting back to normal, I don't believe there will be any more downs for the area, it's very spread out and not on top of each other for the large size of the city. It's mostly rural and VERY PRETTY, I haven't noticed smog like mentioned but like anywhere check it out to see how you like it.

I am currently living in Utah and am relocating to the same general area. I used to live in the Temecula/Murrieta area a few years ago. I have also lived in Lake Elsinore and Riverside. I would NOT live in Moreno Valley. Sun City and Lake Elsinore are not too bad. Lake Elsinore is really trying to clean up the city because in the past they have had problems with gangs and drugs. If you want to move to that general area I would recommend Murrieta, Temecula, Menifee, or Wildomar (some parts of Wildomar are rough). JMO

MoVal is growing and growing.. More houses/malls being built.... Getting congested... I would suggest to stay close to the golf course..
