Possible scenario and questions:
Middle age male with a job relocation from Texas to Lake Arrowhead, Crestline area on the mountain.
1. Are quiet, clean small cabins, apartments, or duplexes available for less than $1000 monthly?
2. If I purchased an RV to live in initially, are there RV parks on the mountain and with the climate on the mountain is that possible (I haven't lived in an RV since college but I think I could handle it for six months anyway)?
3. Are there jobs available (for wife) as an RN on the mountain? Hospitals, hospice, large clinics?
4. Is the proximity of the mountain ideal for lots of day/weekend trips to explore the abundance of things to see in Southern California?
First time posting and thanks in advance for any replies

1. It appears so from a brief scan of craigslist.
2. Not my realm.
3. I would doubt it, Lake Arrowhead appears to have a small hospital.
4. Absolutely.

1. Yes -- you will definitely be able to find a rental for under $1,000 per month. If you can afford to spend $1,000, don't settle for an apartment; finding a free-standing cabin for that price will not be too difficult. Lake Arrowhead itself might be a bit beyond that budget.
2. Can't think of any decent RV parks on the mountain east of Big Bear. Don't waste your time or money with that.
3. Doubtful, unless she can find a job at Mountains Community Hospital. Mountain residents always vote to support our hospital, but there are only so many jobs available.
4. The mountains are within day/weekend trip distance of almost all notable sites in SoCal.

Welcome to SoCal and our beautiful mountains -- once you arrive, I am sure that you will not want to leave!

Mountains Community Hospital - Current Positions Available
They also have 2 rural health clinics on the mountain.

Down the hill are Community Hospital of San Bernardino, St. Bernardine Medical Center, Patton State Hospital, Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, Loma Linda Hospitals, and the VA.

I live in Lake Arrowhead, it blows the doors off anyplace else in Southern California. You can rent a nice house for $1500 a month. There aren't apartment up here in the mountains. Clean, safe and beautiful.

Will you be working in the Arrowhead area itself? If so I'm envious.
Only asking because we lived in Crestline for a few years but we commuted and went up and down the mountain everyday. Eventually, hubby changed jobs and it was too far to commute so we moved.
Really miss it up there!

BTW, for you wife, wonder if there's any senior care opportunities up there until she can get into a hospital or clinic. Good luck!!

Yes I will be working in the Arrowhead area so I would not have to commute down the mountain daily. I am still waiting regarding the job but I have my fingers crossed. It will be a cross country move of which I haver never done. Never lived over a 100 miles from hometown but I am trying to approach it as a chance to explore the great state of CA and I love the West.

Well, the good news is it's only half a cross country move. The bad news is, if you're coming from the flat part of Texas you might get nosebleeds up the hill!

Best of luck. It is beautiful.
