Default Activities for kids in Riverside?

I just moved to the city of Riverside (we're on the western side.) We don't know anyone here and i'm struggling to find activities to do with my children, especially on hot days. So far we've signed up for the summer reading program at the library, and we're visiting the park frequently. Anyone have any suggestions on activities I can do with a 3 year old and an 18 month old? I'm really missing our playgroups back home. I haven't found any here yet.

Thanks!

check with the town park and rec dept for local activities. riverside is big enough that they should have some sizable programs.

also, check with the local ymca. at the least, you can get them into some swim lessons, and during the summer there tends to be some kids hanging around often in my experience

Thanks. So far our neighborhood seems to be 2 parents working, not many kids around during the day. And it's too late to sign up for the summer session classes through parks and rec. Oh well I guess we'll have stuff to do in the fall.

Could I get your opinion on Riverside? Are you enjoying the area? We are relocating to the Inland Empire in a few months and am not sure where to look...we have heard mixed reviews on Riverside...

Thanks!

My favorite new place is The Jump Zone, it is in Redlands though. It is 8 dollars per kid. It is indoors and filled with those inflatable jumper things. It is so fun. My kids 6 and 2 love it. They get to stay for about 2.5 hours. They are so tired when they get out there they about pass out on the way home. Redlands is really not far from Riverside and it is a great indoor activity to beat the hot summers here. Also in Riverside there are many parks Fairmont Park is huge, although there are some homeless people there. Then there is Hunter park I think over on Columbia that has that little train. That is fun. There is always Chuckee Cheese too. There is one in Moreno Valley and Corona. I never eat at Chuck e cheese. We just get tokens and play games.

momwith2babies - not sure if you're still checking this or not. my wife and I live with our one year old daughter across town from you (just outside downtown riverside). my wife's super involved with MOPS (mothers of preschoolers) on thursday mornings at our church. they started up a couple weeks ago, but if you're interested in finding out more about it call 951-689-5700.
