First Time Home Buyer...VictorVille or Hesperia??
Me,my wife, and my 3 month daughter are lookin to buy our first home...since right now the market is so cheap we want to take advantage of the oppertunity also we want to get in on that 8,000 tax credit for first time home buyer.....my sister lives in victorville right by reno loop and hook and her house is very nice two story 2006 home 2,800sqft but has no yard whatsoever ....hesperia gots land but more of a deserty living and old homes....our budget is about 80,000 to 100,000 ....i talked to some people who live in victorville (trac homes) and was told if the had a chance to do it all over again they would choose hesperia cause homes in victorville are so close to each other so long story short .....which is better....looking for a low crime area

If your sister lives in VV, I suggest you pack your bags and spend a week with her. That way you can check out first hand what areas and prices are like.
I am in Hesperia and VV almost daily, but wouldn't want to suggest where you should live, and what the best fit would be.
There are good and bad area in both cities, best you see for yourself.....

If I had to pick right now I would go with Hesperia. I lived in Hesperia for many, many years. And I loved it there. We lived on the Mesa ares. Very nice then....with that said the High Desert has gotten worse over the years. Just be careful before you buy. Also keep an eye out to Mello Roos in Victorville. Heard it's crawling with them. And you don't want that.
My most certain area if I were to ever come back to California...(which I wont) but anycase would be Oak Hills or Hesperia side along the freeway.
With your budget you should be able to find something nice, probably older or bank owned. But, either way you get a home.
Every area has it's pro and cons. Go hang with your sister a week if you can and experiance the HD for yourself.

I completely agree. However, my sister lived in victorville a while and let me tell you.. theres a reason the homes are so cheap. Its like a desert out there. Some neighborhoods don't even have sidewalks. Theres nothing to do out there. Up to you.

I'm in the low desert, not the hight desert but -- why is this a bad thing?
Most rural neighborhoods don't have sidewalks - and I'd be really pissed if the county decided to put them in my area. And then they'd tax me for something no one in the area wants.

Hey~~Tech209
I've lived in Victorville since 1987 and before that Burbank , CA . The Victor Valley has changed quite a bit since we first moved here. My first question is~do you already have a job and where is it??
Down the hill (Cajon Pass) or up here, that does makes the biggest difference. If you have a home in Apple Valley that alone going east on Bear Valley Rd. from the 15 freeway will add anywhere from 30 to 60 mins at high peak times. Let me know. I'll check back tomarrow.

hello all and thanks you all again for the output ...i been going back and forth to my sisters in the weekend and ive seen alot of homes already mostly in hesperia but alot of older homes and the miss's just does not like the home layout (mainly master bedroom) vs the homes in victorville that are more newer ....when we spoke to our realtor she basically said the best bang for your is going to be in Victorville so we going to take a look into Victorville and see what we might come up with...Alot of the homes are going fast ...there has been a couple of homes that i really liked but are now in contingent ....i work down the hill right where the 10 and 15 meet by ontario mills ...is there anything i should be aware about thanks everyone and anyone can suggest a decent area in victorville and the places to keep out....found a couple of nice homes in the marble community

tech- put it this way Palmdale Road in Victorville is the oldest part, Bear Valley Rd Victorville side is mostly commerical. You don't want to commute up or down Bear Valley Rd period. Along 380 al those homes where built so fast that the inspection were pushed through to get buyers in...now these buyers lost their homes due to the economy and bought what they truly could not afford.
The homes behind the mall is a hood you want to stay away from, also the ones close to the court house Mojave Rd ish..some well establish homes off Green Tree area off Palmdale Rd.
Really old homes around the Victorvalley Hospital.
Don't buy around Nisqualli Rd, not a nice area. To many apartment rats within the mix. What is that name of the apartment complex down on Nisqualli...Desert Sands....not a good place. Neither is the BIG one on Nisqualli...name slip my mind right this moment. To much rift raft.
I live in the HD for 20 years and for 15 of them the HD was great small progress, but a great place to live. The last five years I lived there I couldn't wait to get my chance to move. I am not bashing the Victorvalley, but it has changed a lot in the past few years. So make sure before you make that move it is what you really want.
The commute from "Down the Hill" is extremely hard on any vehicle. You will replace one quicker. Also the winter when the pass closes...oh how fun. Or when there is heavy fog and those 30 car pile ups....miss those days. Or when the fires attract looky lous.....or during any national holiday like Labor Day, Memorial Day, New Years Eve travel to vegas and the red tail lights you see climbing the first grid through the Mojave Desert and its stop and go for miles......or my favorite when you are stopped on the fwy around the Cajon junction, lets say by what use to be Tiffany's and it's completely stop and people turn off their cars and get out and walk around.
Good luck to you.
