Is it safe for high school student to commute in Corona
We just moved to Corona a month ago, and I would be enrolling my daughter as freshmen at Centennial High School. Our house is about 3 miles away, and we're deciding whether to let her commute to school or register for school bus. I learned that school bus rates now run at $300 a month, so commuting would be a lot cheaper, but we're concerned about her safety. What can you advise. Thanks.

WHHHHAAATTT?
$300/mo to take a school bus?
What has happened to the CNUSD? They bused me to Norco from McKinley/Magnolia (Home Gardens) in Corona because I was in GATE, and also bused me there for intermediate school, for free. But this was back in the 90's. I would have been bused to Centennial had we not moved to Riverside.
How would she be commuting, walking? Bike? Three miles each way is far too long to let her walk or bike every day, she'll be tired when she gets to school and tired when she gets home -- the commute might reflect in her grades. I wouldn't worry too much about crime-type safety (depends on where you live), but more about being in/near-the-road-too-long type safety.
Are you closer to Centennial than to Corona, Norco or Santiago?
I'm usually against parents driving their kids to/from school, but in this case I'd say do it.

You sure that's not $300 for the school year? That seems more in line then $300 a month.

that is terrible, busses were free back in the 90s. I used to bus from the green river area to the old santiago (now citrus hills jr. high). my only complaint was that i had to wake up really early because i was so far away from the campus.

Corona-Norco School District charges $360 per year for the 1st child, $300 for the 2nd, $240 for the 3rd, and no charge after that. You can also apply for an exemption - you have to fill out a form and it all depends on income.

Interesting.....do they charge this fee to families that live far from their zoned schools?
For instance, I grew up in Home Gardens, and was zoned to Norco Intermediate (I believe Home Gardens is now zoned to Citrus Hills). If we lived there now, would my family have to pay to have our kids bussed to our "home" intermediate or high schools? It wouldn't be our fault the school is so far away.
When considering this, consider us the most well-off family in Home Gardens.

I sure am glad I'm not raising my kids in that district......but I'm glad I spent K-8 there back in the 80's-90's..
