College Grad Moving to Palm Desert... LOTS of questions!
Hi! Ive been reading some of the forum topics on this and I think its time to start my own thread so I can get some solid advice. Inspite of what ive been reading about the area being for mostly people in their 30s+, I have landed a dream job in Palm Desert.
I have been to California once in my life and am moving from a larger city in the midwest. (I do know the warnings of how hot it gets in Palm Desert but trust me youve never had the winters in the midwest like I have dealt with I can handle this!)
I need advice on places to live, and which city would best fit me. I am moving out here not knowing a single person outside of my boss, am 23, and moving by myself (no spouse, family, ect). Ideally I would like to find a place that would be easy to find young people to befriend, and have lots of things to do. Coffee shops, good shopping, bars, art, parks for my dog, live music, safe community so I wouldnt worry walking at night, ect.
This move is happening VERY quickly and I need advice fast. Thanks so much for all the help!

You'll probably want to find some place above the El Paseo in Palm Desert.

DesertDesigner, what is the dream job you landed? I wanna move down there, too, but I'm still missing the "dream job" part....

Work at an architecture firm! Its a very tough market for architects right now so it might be difficult to find a job in the field if that is what you are going for...

Well if the job doesn't pan out, you can just add one "S" and start making pastries!!

Palm Desert in the area around the College of the Desert (COD) is nice. There is the civic center park to walk around, and also has a separate dog park. The McCallum theater is right there, and the street fair is held at COD. That is actually my favorite area around here. There would be younger people since the college is there too. Don't know about bars and coffee shops though.

I agree with Twinkle Toes...the Palm Desert area near El Paseo and the College of the Desert would have what you are looking for.

I lived in Palm Springs for a year when I was 25 (long time ago); I was transferred there with my company. Obviously the area has grown a lot since then and there is much more to do. The desert is beautiful and very relaxing. You'll have to go out of your way to meet young professionals, although I found that there were many kind, social older people who loved to mentor. You'll probably meet a lot of people when you walk your dog!
