My question to those who rent is, are apts really that affordable in Palm Springs or is this price related to the recession?
It's the norm. My son rents a one bedroom apartment in Indio (nice part) on the border of Indio and La Quinta for $750/month. It has 6 pools and spas, weight room, clubhouse, one car garage, washer/dryer/dishwasher in each unit, and security patrol. It's a pretty nice place and reasonably priced.

That's a great post Twinkle Toes - I wonder if we've met! But I digress!

If you are interested specifically in a rental/purchase in Palm Springs itself please feel free to ask me about the area in which the rental/purchase is located. I am NOT, in any way, involved in Real Estate nor Financing nor ANY related business. Just like to help and I have the time to do it!
I hope I have my 'BeFriend' thingy turned on, so anyone interested can contact me using it, I think! New to these forums (Yesterday, October 18, 2009).

Moved to Palm Springs in 1996, rented a 6 BR house in Las Palmas on Via Monte Vista. Economics have forced me to retreat from such spacious luxury! However, through experience and curiosity (as well as rollerblading 50 miles a week) I've learned quite a bit about the town. Took the tour of the stars homes six times so, when my friends came to visit, I could drive them around instead of them getting on a bus.

I've lived in New York City, Mill Valley & San Franciso, Key West, Fort Lauderdale, Provincetown, Ogunquit, London, Paris, San Juan, Acapulco, Mexico City, drove from Barcelona through the Pyrenees, into Marseille, up the coast to Cap Ferrat, Lake Como then on through the Alps to Geneva and Zurich, onto Paris, stopping along the way... and I've never encountered an town similar to Palm Springs, California: it's the smallest cosmopolitan area I've ever been in. A short flight to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, OR, etc. With such a variety of gay social levels and interesting people!

Never have I had a moment to be bored!

That's my 2 cents, for what it's worth!

Jim, comfortable, settled and content in Palm Springs

What a great reply, Jim - thanks! I'm thoroughly amazed by the cosmopolitan and sophisticated nature of Palm Springs, even though it has a very small population! (Well, compared to where I am now, which has a metro area of over two million but often feels like the Midwest - definitely not very cosmopolitan). I thought it would be impossible to find a small city that didn't feel like Hooterville, but PS is definitely it. (IMHO, Santa Cruz would be another possibility as it's a cool small town with stuff going on, but cold foggy weather doesn't agree with me - and having spent decades in Portland OR, I should know!) I look forward to being there permanently someday.

Rah, Thanks for the compliment - let me know when you plan on coming - I myself am in a monogamous relationship but I do know a single or two!
