Shelters are already overrun with homeless pets because of the economy. They're more interested in making sure people can keep their pets in their home. Call around - they will likely be able to assist you with free or low-cost care, or direct you to a place that can help. Your situation is not uncommon.

Edit: Sorry, I didn't mean to completely repeat what's already been said. I need to learn how to read past the first page!

Could very well be. I woud hope it's not, and that her story was legit.

As already noted, she claims she has no money for dewormer (how much does that treatment cost, anyway?) yet has money for a computer and Internet service.

Kind of reminds me of the literally millions of kids (many the anchor babies of illegal aliens, if truth be told) in this state who are given free breakfast and lunch every school day (and now during summer vacation, as well, if they want it) even though their parents drive them to school in very expensive late-model SUV's, and virtually EVERY one of them has their own cell phone.

You can get a netbook for about $200 or so and free Internet access at Starbucks. I'd cut back to ramen noodles for a couple months if that's what it took to get a computer.
