Its been many yrs since i was last in palm springs. I went to cathedral city & palm springs last thurs & even though it was 85 degrees at 8:00 am i didnt mind it too much. I really like the mountain scenery & i noticed the palm springs population (city limits sign) is over 42k & the elevation is 475 feet. I like the elevation here in yucaipa better (2500 feet). When i drove from yucaipa to cathedral city i really felt the heat starting in cabazon. The scenery on the 10 east freeway & 111 is not much to look at (mostly sand & big white wind blades). I myself would not live in the desert but to each his/her own. I plan to go down again this winter. I would like to take the PS tram up the mountain. The last time i attempted to go to the tram it was in may.1987 at 8:00 pm & 100 degrees. My car overheated & i went back down. Thats a steep drive to the tram.

the tram is awesome. if i were you, i'd get off & go ck out idylwild. ok, i haven't been there in forever, but what i remember of it was fun. we took a donkey tour... with a guide who was very informative about the variety of microclimates & the forest - nice!

at one time we rented a cabin with some friends in idylwild. it was very nice. not high brow but accomodating. nice kitchen. we brought our own sleeping bags to use on the beds. ate special brownies! it was fun. (in my younger days). nice little low brow dining in town.

Idylwild is a nice lil mountain town. I havent been there forever though. Unfortunately my car is a old gas hog & i use it mainly for work & grocery shopping. I used to give my neighbor rides time to time for free (for the most part) but his gravy train ended when he said i was a push over. Once he called me up & said he needs a ride to the store to get a watermelon. I told him he has 2 feet & the store is 2 miles round trip. I have walked to the store a few times. If i didnt need a car for work (when i get it) then i could do without it. Anyways....once again im off topic.
