I am wondering if anybody out there knows anything about Beaumont,Ca.. I also would like advice about air quality and anything about high schools and college.

Hot, windy, small town. Has a Walmart, Kmart and the typical So Cal grocery stores. Very little night life if thats important to you. The area out there is really growing with typical cracker box postage stamp sized lot type homes. The builders are starting to have hard time getting rid of.
To the east about 30 minutes is college of the desert. To the west 15 minutes is Crafton Hills college, liberal arts school known locally for the fire fighting program. Loma Linda if you want a medical carrer. A community college in San Bernardino about 30 minutes and Cal State San Bernardino about 45 minutes. Keep in mind, like most of So Cal drive times can easily double or worse depending on weather, traffic or a full moon |

The traffic isn't bad through the Banning/Beaumont area. It starts to get really bad through the Redlands/Yucaipa area. I am in Palm Desert and I never get stuck in traffic until I get to the Redlands area.

Thank you, Jim C. Can you answer another question? Is Beaumont safe to live in? By that I mean, crime and gangs. Here, in Modesto,Ca. we have some gangs but on the West side of town and we live in the North and the only way you will meet any would be to go to their side of town. We are moving because it very hot here and real cold during winter. We are always in one extreme of weather to another. No in-betweens. I also have developed asthma living here, they call it Valley Fever. Any time, the weather changes in temperature(keep in mind-weather is either hot or cold) I have asthma attacks and they can get pretty severe. Not to mention, this place is considered to be the dirtiest place to live because of the air quality. It is like living in a bowl of dust, night and day. I asked about the colleges because I have a daughter who does anime art. So, any information would be useful.
Thanks Again Everyone! |

If you click on the City data.com logo at the top left of the page you can do search on any city you interested in any crime info I give you would be straight off that anyway.
Weather it sounds like you would be moving straight into the same situation your in now. It regularly hits 100 during the summer and I've seen snow on the ground in the pass area and it will go below freezing during the winter. I've spent a fair amount of time in the Merced area (Dos Palos) The main difference is in Beaumont the wind blows a lot more days of the year and a whole lot stronger. Which I would think would be bad for your asthma but I have zero experince with that. |

JimC covered just about everything very well. I graduated from Beaumont High back in '76 and my son just recently sold his house there. There is a new middle and high school now and fiber optic lines are being installed throughout the entire city so they are trying to get ready for the future. It is a mix of older homes near the freeway and newer homes further out. There is a new Home Depot and the usual mix of common name fast food joints and a few OK small restaurants in town. I have a very good friend that is a CHP officer in the area and he has told me the gang problems are generally next door in Banning. One thing I can tell you for a fact is the Beaumont Police Department is a very no nonsense group, from my high school days to present they do not mess around. Yes is does get hot in the summer but the afternoon breeze blows every day and it cools off at night. My son did get a couple inches of snow two winters ago but that is not very common. All in all I think I would look more towards the city of Yucaipa (more expensive) over Beaumont if I was making the move down there. Good luck on your move.

If you take Jammers advise let me know. I'm in Yucaipa and my place just happens to be for sale
About Yucaipa: Less wind, closer to multiple seasons than Beaumont. Rarely hits 100 and we do get hard freezes during the winter but normally only at night and not for days on end. Makes it good for fruit trees. To find a home depot or walmart you'll have to go to Redlands or Beaumont about 15 minutes away. We do have the chain Grocery stores. We are closer to the colleges. The liberal arts college I was talking about is 5 minutes from me by car and maybe 15 by bike. Some will say the pass area which includes Yucaipa, Banning and Beaumont is a hole and not worth a look. Mostly it's just small towns trying to grow. Some do a better job than others. |

JimC, just trying to help you sell your home....LOL! actually I had no idea but I would consider your town before Beaumont if I was looking in that area.

Thanks to everyone! I think I'll try Santa Maria(ughhhh) or maybe Paso Robles? I need cooler climate but don't want to go broke doing it.

I don't think Beaumont is that bad. They have a number of new upscale communities and the whole area is growing. I don't think it is better than Yucaipa or Redlands though. They have a huge new shopping area, Super Walmart, new Home Depot, Apple Bees all the typical socal strip plaza stores and a new high school too. And I have no comment about the wind as it was only windy once when I have been there.
They are planning a huge Victoria Garden's/Dos Lagos type outdoorsy mall right off the ten, I beleive in between Beaumont and Yucaipa. And Yucaipa is getting a big plaza area in the next 2 years right off Oak Glenn and the 10. I ended up buying in Yucaipa and really like it so far. I like Redlands a bit better but for the price I am happy where I am at. I do have to say if you are looking for cooler I wld not head inland this far or else you are up for a mountain community, but they obviously get winter weather too not just mild weather. |
