Default Looking to take a day trip to Borrego Springs

I want to take my family from Temecula to Borrego Springs on a day trip. What is there to do? I don't want to spend lots of money? I think it will be too hot to hike for my little daughter. Is there a neat downtown area? Museums?

Anyhow, thanks in advance!

I haven't been over there in a while, but I do know there is this nice little park with plenty of grass, benches and shade. You could hang out there if you want.

here's a website all about hiking trails. one of them has a waterfall, even though it is summer, the waterfall could cool you all down! LocalHikes - Anza Borrego SP - Pictograph trail and http://www.trails.com/activity.aspx?area=11205

Borrego Springs has a tiny downtown area. Here's a map:
Christmas circle, Borrego Springs, CA - Google Maps

Just set your GPS to: Christmas circle, Borrego Springs, CA

Personally, I think it would be a waste to go there and not go hiking on one of the trails. When I went there I only went to go hiking, and from my research on the area, the only other things in town were a bunch of country clubs.

Thanks for each of your replies. I really appreciate your help. Caliguy19 - I think, we will check out that park fairly soon. Maybe the hiking trail with the waterfall would work.

Keep in mind that it's 105+ out there right now. You're really better off taking a day trip to the mountains this time of year- the only time it's nice enough for hiking right now is at night (full moon hiking FTW!).

As far as waterfalls and such go: they're *very* seasonal here. As in, it's almost July, so no waterfall in the County is going to have much water going over it.

Borrego Springs is great especially if you take highway 78 down into the desert from Julian. But if you go to Borrego now it will be way too hot to enough anything outside. During summer Borrego Springs is almost a ghost town. But in winter it is alive with "snowbirds" and the hills are green and the wild flowers are blooming.

I pride myself for being able to take the heat - Temecula is pretty hot also. However, I must consider my family and after reading these posts - I'm convinced. We'll wait until it cools. I really appreciate all the great advice.
