hey all,

My Sister and her 5 year old, my wife and myself are all going to be flying into S.D. for our baby shower (wifes family and friends are there). They are only going to be in S.D. for Fri-Sun, Saturday is the baby shower.

I was thinking of taking them to the beach or somewhere neat to show off S.D. after I pick them up from the airport.

Can anyone reccomend some good quick places to take them?

Mission beach on the boardwalk by the roller coaster? Maybe somewhere in La Jolla? Do they still have the place where the seals come up on the beach and sun them selves?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Walk along the path from La Jolla Cove to Children's pool (where the seals are). That's probably your best bet, given the time constraint and one of the most beautiful areas of SD.

Ditto on La Jolla Cove. Here's a link with maps:

LegoLand. Straight up the 5 from La Jolla, in Carlsbad.

I wouldn't got to Legoland with only 2 hours. It takes many hours and is very expensive. Lots of money to pay for only 2 hours.

If I were a 5 year old, and given the choice between playing in a children's pool and going to LegoLand, I'm going to choose the latter. The whole 2 hour deal - you can hit Carlsbad from La Jolla in 15 minutes.

So, OP, it depends, is the final answer. Is your intention based on what the kid would enjoy most? Or are you trying to save a buck? If your plan is to save money, then yes, La Jolla Cove will work. If your plan is to let that kid experience the most fun you can give him on short notice, LegoLand is pricier, but definitely more fun for someone his age.

Up to you

> Carlsbad from La Jolla in 15 minutes

That's a distance of about 30 miles. 120mph? In traffic?

So what? On the weekend you can easily get there in 15 minutes. I should know - I can go from Santee to Carlsbad in 30 minutes on a business day, I commute from Carmel Mountain to Santee daily and if there's no traffic I can get there in 15 minutes - with traffic, 30 minutes.

Logically, you should be able to make half that route in 15. If you say you can't, you're doing something wrong.

Yes, let's encourage someone with a small child in the car to speed! Logically, you're not all there! According to google maps, it's 36 minutes from LJ to Carlsbad, so more like 25 minutes with no traffic!

What speeding? Google Maps is basing that time on "as the bird flies". As we well know, that's not always true for measuring the time it takes to get there. It's also based on what is normally 55 MPH, which is the standard in almost every other state besides CA.
