Try any of the Archstone apartments, pet friendly and have monthly rentals (price is higher than yearly lease). Can do rental online, lots of 1BR for under $2k (even monthly). All their properties are relatively new, good quality, well managed by a LARGE company. Wife and I stayed at one for 16 months, but lots of neighbors were there for 4-6 months.

When we first got to town we stayed in Mesa Village Apartments located in Clairemont. They were studio apartments but had a 3 month lease, had the option to be furnished at no additional cost, and allowed us to bring our cat and guinea pig. Couldn't beat the convenience for the price!

Default Success!

Thanks for your input, everyone. Pinksquid was largely correct that private owners were more likely to accept pets in general, as we ended up finding four or five properties on VRBO (Vacation Rentals By Owner) that agreed to accept us. During his visit to SD this week, my husband also managed to find three complexes that would accept our rabbit: one was a condo in La Costa, one an apartment in UTC, and the other a 55+ complex (also in UTC). We picked the UTC apartment (La Jolla Palms).

That's a relief. Now we can focus on vacating here and getting to SD with furniture, rabbit, and nerves intact.

The palms is an Irvine company property. That means most any of the Irvine co properties would work fine. Welcome to la jolla/utc short term neighbor. Tell your rep at the Palms that I said hi. Wish I knew you were going there...maybe I could have got you a discount.:-)
