I need help from you SD residents.

I have a couple of interviews spread out over a few weeks in SD but I cannot find a temporary room. Everything in SD is taken or out of my price range.

Are there any hostels, or "extended stay" type hotels, that I can get for about $500 for 30 days?

Let me now ASAP. Ive been doing my own research but I cannot seem to find any.

Where are your interviews? There's a USA Hostel, and also a Hostelling International in the Gaslamp. But you would have to pay for parking, because there is none. If you're lucky, you might be able to find a meter after 6:00pm. There are a few others - Hostel Cat in the East Village, and Lucky D's on the edge of the East Village. I know there are a few others, but I think they're for international students only. There's the Hotel Occidental and 500 West Hotel also. I used to stay at HI hostels when I went out of town, so I'm familiar with them. I do know there are some extended stay hotels, I know the California Suites in Clairemont, and I know that there's one in Mission Valley (I think). Check out Yelp!.com for reviews and information on what you're looking for, it should help.

Do you like to stay at the Y M C A? Or don't they still have rooms there?

the kings inn in mission valley, hotel circle, might be extended stay. i stayed there for a few days and there were some people relocating for work to SD and they were temporarily living there.

I don't know what it costs, or even if it's still there. In Mission Valley, just east of Nicolosi's, is an extended stay hotel. My sister and nephew spent a month there several years ago when they moved here and were looking for a place to live.

Lol, what makes you think YMCA?

OP, try the howard johnson or days inn on rosecrans. Very good central location.

Beware of Dog sounds like he's closer to my age; when the Y rented out rooms. I think that was part of the premise behind the song - YMCA But I remember actually staying in a room they designated for the Ladies, once in DC when I was snowed in and couldn't get back to my apartment.

The YMCA doesnt "rent" but the 500 West Hotel is in the same building as the downtown YMCA. Its also blocks to the Santa Fe Depot if you need to hit up the Amtrak or light rail.

You may want to check out craigslist and check out the roommates listings -- depending on where you need to be, you can rent a room for ~$500.
