Socketz is right...

None have great schools, all have relatively high crime. Comparing them is almost pointless because there are other, cheaper places you could live with exponentially better environments for a child.

Of all of them Castle Park is the most established area. It is not a terrible area but is definitely run-down. Mix of Mexican and Filipino homeowners mostly. Some gang and crime problems too. It could be OK if you were on a good block but coming in as an outsider I don't see how you could determine that.

San Ysidro could be OK if you are talking about one of the tract home developments east of 5 which tend to be fairly self-contained with their own shopping. If you are talking about "Downtown" San Ysidro, I'd say avoid it at all costs.

There are better places in San Diego County. that are low-priced, I don't quite understand why you are choosing these areas. Have you looked at North Encanto, Lemon Grove or El Cajon? Is Escondido, Vista, or Lakeside an option? Even Valencia Park, Oak Park might be somewhere to look.

Hell I'd live almost anywhere before I'd live in Barrio Logan, and I am down there almost every day. The neighborhood is a longtime barrio complete with street vendors, gang crime, and tiny, ramshackle housing. There are some great people down there and I know a ton of nice kids, but for a teenager it is a troublesome place with lots of bad influences all around.

Also I am thinking you are Puerto Rican. Are you familiar with Mexican barrios at all? My only experience with Puerto Rican / Dominican Barrios is in NYC, and SoCal barrios are very run down and gang crime is a big problem.

If those were the only areas I could afford to buy, then I'd seriously consider renting in a nicer area to get the things you want.

Default How bout Encinitas

We are thinking of moving to San Diego County and I am wondering about Encinitas? My hon will work in Mira Mesa area. I also wonder about Clairemont Mesa? Can anyone tell me how far Encinitas is from Mira Mesa for a commute?
Yeah I figured the south end of San Diego to be the problem areas. We are looking north.

Encinitas to Mira Mesa area is a short distance (15 miles) but the commute on the 5 can be pretty heavy.

Would highly recommend Encinitas over Clairmont Mesa. Have you checked prices in Encinitas yet?
