Is it possible to ride the train from Encinitas, Oceanside, etc. to Universal Studios? How close is the train station to the park? New to SD, CA and still trying to figure out how the trains work.

There is the Metrolink and then there is Amtrak. Metrolink serves the OC and LA and comes as far south as Oceanside. Amtrak leaves from Solana Beach and Oceanside (among other stations in SD) and connects to points north through LA.
It's probably best to just Google both of them for schedules and stations. Maybe there is a way to ride to Century City or some other place close to Universal Studios.

first, you'll take the amtrak to union station in LA. from there, transfer to the red line (subway), which will take you to universal city. cross the street towards the high rise and there is a tram that stops in front of the parking garage that will take you to the top of the hill where the theme park entrance is located.

I believe the station is about 1 mile from the theme park.
