I am a mature male, single, and a professional aerospace engineer working for a major defense contractor in Rancho Bernardo, CA. I am to move there in two weeks from New York. I am looking for an area to live that 1) has Japanese culture, including bilingual community, and 2) that is affordable (rent or mortgage about $1500-$2000). Must have 2-4 BD, two full bath, for relatives to visit and over night stay. I am looking to rent a home preferably with option to buy if possible. Any ideas?
There is a great Japanese Mall called Mitsuwa. Mitsuwa Marketplace the largest Japanese Supermarket in the U. S. All around it there are some great Japanese shops, a music/cd store(book off), up the street a Japanese dollar store (Daiso) and appliance store, those are off Balboa Ave and Kearny Villa Rd, east of PB. Plenty of housing around there and apartments.

Here is another helpful site: Japanese dollar store San Diego
There are a few great sweet bakeries there, one in Chula Vista, (Hogetsu) http://mmm-yoso.typepad.com/mmmyoso/...su_bakery.html
Really yummy! Hope this helps.

But, if there are any, that group will be able to tell you where to look.

You might be able to find a 2 bedroom apartment in your rent range but probably not more than that, at least not in any good areas, unless you really luck out. Rent To Buy in San Diego County, Rent To Buy Homes in California This link might help in your search for a place to rent to buy. At least it would give you an idea of prices and what's out there.
NO way! Do NOT rent or lease to buy. Just come move out there, rent for a year then think about buying.

Hey Twigg

I want to thank you for the info on Mitsuwa market. I have been eating lunch there almost every day and I enjoy the food and hospitality of the people.

Don't you just love hearing "Irasshaimase" when you first walk into a Japanese restaurant?

Other authentic restaurants in the area you should try are Tajima, Yakitori Yakyudori and Wa Okan Dining and Robata-ya Oton. Mitsuwa is great, isn't it?

I did that. Thank you Skelaki! seems to be the only way to get to know the SD area. Too many houses on the market and mortgage rates are...well..you know! I rented a place near my job with a six months contract. We’ll see what happens!
