Currently, I am living in North Park and am beginning to feel it is unsafe. I have been burglarized and my neighbor has as well, within the past 2 months. I am thinking about moving to Golden Hill. How is the neighborhood? Which areas in Golden Hill are the better ones? How about the area around the intersection of E St. and 25th St?

I've been spending a lot of time in that exact neighborhood lately, and I think it's fine. Pretty much from 25th to the west and from E to the North (as far East as 30th) are the parts of Golden Hill I'd recommend, with a bit of variation- you can usually tell pretty easily from the surroundings.

What part of North Park are you living in? Some parts are markedly better than others. I'm near Utah and Adams and feel quite safe, but there are areas of North Park I wouldn't live in.

I live in an undesirable part of North Park, and have never had any problems. I plan to move to a larger place in a nicer part of the city. I'd like to move now, but it has to wait until I have a decent paying, full time job.

Actual crime index per city of SD from Jan 2010 through Aug:

Golden Hill 21.73
North Park 31.16

BTW La Jolla is 29.76

But you'll forever have the blue haired dames, (or perhaps more accurate, platinum blond, plastic surgery addicts) of La Jolla shudder at the thought of living in "crime infested" central city neighborhoods haha

Even better is that perceived latino "slum" (I'm kidding here, I love this neighborhood) of Sherman Heights, just south of Golden Hill across 94, a quiet, country like crime rate of 19.72 (and this is actually high for this neighborhood, I've seen it around 11.00 before)

Crime rates don't tell you much of anything. Your risk of property crime in Golden Hill is not going to be much less than in North Park. Good security - locked doors and windows, good lighting, is a must of you are going to live in a city setting.

my friend just moved to golden hill...i had never been there before but it looked like a nice clean area. but then she just texted me yesterday saying she had to call the police because the neighbor's house was being burglarized. but as the poster above me pointed out, San DIego is a large city, crime is inevitable, but precautionary steps can go a long way

Default Golden Hill Is Awesome!

I just have to say that I have lived in Golden Hill for six years now and think its absolutely wonderful and safe. Especially if you are from the East Coast cities it feels like Mayberry. I do know that there have been incidents but as far as the city goes they are not a big deal (its like getting struck by lightening odds that something will happen to you crime-wise here) and since 2006 its practically unrecognizable. There use to be graffiti and high schooler gangs hanging out on corners. I dont know where they went but I never see them anymore. ANd because I walk and bike everywhere - like most people who live on Golden Hill - I am very aware of my surroundings. So to answer the main question - yes! its a very safe place to live and walk at all hours.

Golden Hill is great. Can't wait to see what happens to the rest of the neighborhood once this project is completed. Just wish the old gas station wasn't being blocked.

I just left a house at 26th and Broadway and had lived there for 5.5 years. My downstairs neighbor has been there for 9 years. Not once did we ever have a break-in or any other kind of incident that made us feel unsafe. Not only that, but the neighborhood has improved greatly and is continuing to improve with new construction. Also, new restaurants are popping up, with a trendy bar, a Russian Restaurant and a Kabob Shop all opening up in the last few years to go along with the Mexican places, Pizzera Luigi, Krakatoa, The Turf Supper Club and the Golden Hill Cafe. It's a good area to live in for sure.
