Default San Diego or Bay Area

Well now that my husband and I have ruled out moving to Raleigh, NC, we are researching the Bay Area (amazingly expensive and beautiful) and my beloved San Diego (expensive and beautiful).
The reason we are even considering up north is what we see as great housing deals in East Bay (Antioch). When we lived there in the 90s the brand new houses cost $225K range, well they're back to those prices. Unfortunately the schools on a whole are trying to fight there way back.
We also love the North Park/Normal heights/University Heights area, but again the schools. We will look long and hard at Scripps Ranch in search of a smaller home (1500-2000 sq ft) home or townhouse.
I'm excited we're headed back to my home state; eight months to continue to add to our savings and decide whether we'll be NorCal or SoCal -WooHoo!

I'd take North Park/Normal Heights/UH over Antioch any day. Antioch is either sterile subdivisions or lower middle class section 8 type neighborhoods with large strip malls thrown in. Central SD has way more character, more things to do, and is very central.

Yes, I am leaning towards San Diego but my Hubby likes the Bay area better; both great choices.
There is a new school Normal Heights Elementary, does anyone know anything about it? Great Schools didn't have much.
Also Del Cerro looks good and the schools appear to be decent. And of course Scripps Ranch is in the mix.
I'm lobbying hard for San Diego, but Antioch home prices are appealing. Especially if you are a suburbanite like my husband.
Either way I love these choices.

But the thing is....Antioch is so far out, it's almost like living in Sacramento. You and your DH lived there before, so I guess maybe the trade off of living that far out for cheaper housing would be worth it to you, but not for many.

MovingAloha...
Since you're looking at Antioch in NorCal, why not look at Temecula or Fallbrook in SoCal? House prices are cheaper than Antioch and you're only an hour from downtown San Diego.

Hmmm, I'll have to look into Temecula and Fallbrook. The last time we lived in San Diego, we lived in PQ,but we never really bonded with our neighbors or neighborhood. With that in mind, if we move back to San Diego, I want to be in closer to central SD.
I'm definitely not sold on living way the Hell and back out in Antioch.

I would have to veto the Bay area. Housing in SD. is expensive. And SF. is like SD. on steriods. If you dont mind renting and hearing your neighbors through the walls. Go for SF. If you like year round freezing cold foggy weather. SF. is for you. If you like amazing food and a city lifestyle. SF. is for you. If you want to own a home and a car and go to the beach on the weekends. SD. is for you. If you enjoy outdoor activities. SD. is probably better for you too.

Yes, the family has vetoed the Bay Area, my grandson who is 10 years old stated that the beaches and girls were prettier in San Diego. So now we'll focus on neighbohoods. I like Del Cerro and Scripps Ranch. We'll probably rent initially.

HAHA! SMART KID!

Del Cerro and Scripps Ranch are wonderful areas and you might also want to try Poway, San Carlos, and Allied Gardens perhaps.
