Passengers cheer as hobbled ship heads to Calif. - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101110/ap_on_bi_ge/us_cruise_ship_fire - broken link)

Quote:
SAN DIEGO – The food on the disabled cruise ship Carnival Splendor is cold and the lines to get it stretch for hours.
And with the pool, bars and casinos closed and rooms pitch black and stuffy, the nearly 4,500 people and crew on board passed the time with live music, scavenger hunts and trivia games as they are slowly towed to San Diego.
Two tugboats were pulling the 952-foot ship back to the U.S. The journey could take at least until late Thursday.
Track the ship here:

Absolutely amazing to watch those tiny tugboats pull, push and guide that huge ship right to the dock!

"Nightmare cruise". Idiots, the Titanic was a nightmare cruise. So was the Andrea Doria. These people had to put up with a few days of canned food and stuffy cabins.

Whiners.

Yeah it was amazing!

I think I'd be a little freaked out after something like that. I mean you are in the middle of the ocean with no restrooms, food etc.

Hopefully some local workers get some work out of this.

Yep. It's being repaired right here in San Diego.

The 2,500 crew members of the ship are staying in hotels here too.

Agreed. Not a nightmare as much as an inconvenience. You know they'll get another trip comped and have a story to tell about their vacation for years to come

And KPBS' soundbite today on the radio sounded like some stoned surfer... "dude, if you went onto that ship you'd probably hurl, that's how bad it smelled".

Classy, real Classy.
