It's fine that you didn't like San Diego. Everyon has an opinion, but when you make absurd comments like "only 5 people you met on the beach lived here, and the rest were tourists", "too few pretty people" and "LA leftovers..." - expect to be called on it.

Should I assume that because George Bush is from Houston, that everyone in Houston must be an idiot like him?

Streetclimber- if you didn't go to the beaches while living in San Diego, that is your loss and not a reason to gripe about San Diego. And who goes to the beach to meet people? I go with family and close friends. If you like surfing, kayaking, mountain biking, year round jogging, San Diego is so much better than Houston it isn't even close.
Houston is consistently rated one of America's fattest cities.
San Diego's nightlife is best described as "laid back". It really isn't that great. PB would be fun, but as young person I would recommend San Francisco or New York unless you need to live near a beach and/or want good weather year round.

Stuff to do in San Diego? The zoo is ok, but how many times can you go? Also before you think I am just bitter, nothing bad happened to me there, like girlfriend left me, lost job or got priced out (which people in Southern Calif. say happened to people when they see the truth and don't worship their paradise), I just found the city to be a boring place with not too much nightlife or pretty people, a place that takes LA's leftovers, you know the ones that were not good enough looking for LA or couldn't hack it there?
Media huh? I really doubt it. Usually the people who want to move to San Diego are people who went there on vacation or for a business trip and loved it and want to live there full time. You say you are giving an unbiased opinion when you say San Diego is boring and there is nothing to do. But the fact is there are many beaches, parks, Sea World, the zoo, Gaslamp District, La Jolla, Mission Beach, ext. Now if you aren't into those things thats fine, but to disregard them and say it's boring IS a biased opinion because the fact is that many people like those attractions. San Diego is a popular place because it has a lot to offer, not because of the media or anything like that. If you like Houston a lot better thats fine(as strange as it is) but I certainly don't see you posts as "unbiased".

All my friends and I ever did was go to the ever-changing club scene on the strip, go to a bar, go bowling, movies, bbq at people's houses, and that's it. Oh, and some people even went to Utah for snowboarding at Brianhead, or go to Lake Mead where it's 20 degrees hotter than Vegas itself.

That is literally all you can do there, so I'm not sure where you're getting the 'more fun' part from, because you can do all that and more in SD.

Look up teen suicide statistics, and Nevada ranks 3rd. Not so fun when the teens are doing away themselves, right?

Divorce rates in Nevada are #1, so you can't really claim it to be a marital sanctuary and enjoy the married life over there. Probably because of all the strippers fanning their booty in your face via standard AND mobile billboards.

As a tourist, Vegas is fun, but so much when you're a resident living through the 116 degree heat E V E RY single year. I'll agree with OC, and the Bay Area, but only because I've visited and haven't lived there to form a first-hand resident opinion.

I agree. I went to Vegas once and while the sights will 'awe' you, what else is there to do besides gamble and get drunk? As you said, not much else to do there.

Also, how can anyone compare Houston to San Diego? That's like comparing Portland, OR to New York City. Complete opposites.

No hot chicks in San Diego? If I'm not mistaken, isn't one of Hugh Hefner's girlfriends from San Diego? Hmmm....

SoCal is heaven if you're a single guy.

My $0.02

I went to San Diego a few weekends ago and I thought the Gas Lamp District was really fun and the place was crawling with hot guys. Heck, they even have a Hustler store open until 2am.
Not sure about the job market, but I didn't think the night life sucked.

Bush is from the Northeast. New Haven, Connecticut to be exact.

I've also lived in both areas, and there is alot more to do in San Diego. Really the two main things the large cities in TX have going for them nowhere else has is droves of good paying jobs and low cost housing. This is what attracts people to these areas, not outdoor ammenities. For that, Socal is king....but of course you may have to be poor as a church mouse to enjoy these things. Tradeoffs is the name of the game.

Actually the nightlife is the one thing decent about San Diego. That's why I kind of miss being a single guy here. I used to go to Gaslamp almost every Fri. and Sat. night. Despite what many may say, it's actually pretty easy to hook up with a gal here. There are some superficial and stuck-up girls in San Diego, but there are also a lot of laid-back and down-to-earth girls here as well.

One place I would compare San Diego to is Perth, Australia which I've been to on shore leave with the Navy.

He may have been born in Connecticut, but he was raised in Midland and Houston. Texas is his middle name
