Default Julian or Trukee California

We are looking to move to CA. My husband likes snow and I like warm, we are trying to find a happy medium. I was turned on to Julian by a friend and it looks like a nice quiet place also. Employment is not a problem I can live almost anywhere for my job and we plan to spend about $400,000 on a house. We have 3 children and my husband likes mountains and snow but we are looking for somewhat of a compromise. Any advice?

Julian would be perfect as it only recieves snow 3-4 sometimes more times a winter.

Trukee gets a lot of snow, pretty much all winter.

Julian would be your best bet because he can still get the periods of snowfall and you can get your sun.

Two points to ponder about Truckee and snow:

• It's where the Donner Party were stranded.
• It's right down the road from Iceland.

Julian is nice, was there a few weeks back, but honestly, don't know what your interests are or your kids, but there's not a whole heck of alot to do there.

Mostly a tourist and vacation home destination place, and for any good major shopping and what have you, your're gonna have a good drive.

Have you considered a place like Sedona, AZ. One of the prettiest places on earth.

I used to live in Truckee and still have friends who stayed up there for the last 40 yrs after coming up there to visit me while I was there. But you have to like 8 months of winter and cold.

Yeah, Sedona, or what about... Santa Fe, NM? Truckee isn't a bad town, and the summers are lovely with a great lake there, and not too far from Lake Tahoe. But it's at over 7000 feet in elevation (maybe 8000?) so it gets deep snow for months. Julian is only about 4000 feet and therefore gets only those few snowfalls each year, which last on the ground a few days, plus you have higher peaks with more snow if you want it. But it's overall much warmer and drier.

Santa Fe has a great climate for sunshine, warmth, AND winter snow (also a high elevation, but different weather pattern than CA).

I would even recommend Lake Tahoe over Truckee for having hotter summers and less snow. You could also look at Sierra Foothills locations at the 3000-4000 foot level for a similar experience to Julian.

Would like to hear from the OP whether she absolutely has to move to California, because if so, then the advice about AZ and NM will be pointless.
OP???
