Default Great Apartment Complexes?

I'm 22 years old and moving to San Diego in a couple of weeks from NC. Ideally I would love to live in a young, fun, and safe area in a one bedroom apartment. I've been told that a lot of young people live in Pacific Beach and also outside of the Gaslamp District.

I am looking to spend anywhere from 700-1200 dollars a month for everything. I would love to find an apartment complex with a pool and fitness center, but this is not required. Does anyone have any suggestions on not only where in the city to live if you want a young population but also maybe what apartment complexes to look into?

Thank you SO much

Use the 3 websites as a tool
apartments.com and forrent.com
then use apartmentratings.com and even google maps to see the location of the apartments.

If you're looking for young and fun theres Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach, any area that ends with beach! Just remember, where's there young people = drunks and cops being called. Mission Valley is close to all the malls, shopping plazas, football stadium. Theres a zillion new apts, condos in that area filled with young co-eds & yuppies. Hillcrest is a neat, gay-friendly area filled with ethnic restaurants, not alot of parking, and health food places. You seriously have alot of choices of areas to choose from. But off the top of my head, these are some fun, young, and "safe" areas. There's so many more places in SD to look. I would advise you to go on craigslist and find roommates so you'll have new friends to take you around town. Good luck =)

I'm moving out to San Diego in a few weeks, and I've spent the last few weeks looking at apartments downtown. For 700-1200 you'd be hard pressed to find a one-bedroom anywhere I saw downtown near the gaslamp district (especially with a pool). I eventually signed on a place called Avalon at Cortez Hill, which is about a .5 mile walk to the gaslamp. Their one bedrooms start at 1270 which is about as cheap as I found anywhere. You're probably better off trying one of the beaches.

Helpful websites I used were

san diego classifieds for apts, jobs, for sale - backpage.com

craigslist: san diego classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events

I found that these sites tended to have more individuals listing, as opposed to big management companies (which seemed to be the case on rent.com and apartments.com).

PB is a good place for young adults.. if all you want to do is sit around.... smoke weed, get drunk then ride your beach cruiser. IMAO PB is the dumps. Forget parking... you'll find more unemployed 44 year olds in PB than anywhere else in this planet. The only positive I see is that there is a FAT Burger right at the end of Garnett and Mission Bay Drive i think. Finally the apartments in the area are dumpy as well.

I just moved to San Diego... to Ocean Beach. It's sooo great, definitely young and fun. It's really laid back here - no one is dressed up really, very kind of hippie chill place. I live in a great apt complex called Sea Coast on Lotus St... it's so close to the beach and most of the tenants are students I think. The rent is reasonable ($925 for a 1B) and it's actually really nice... has a locked gate to get to the inside. A little loud at times, but I love it so far! Well check it out, I guess the OB scene isn't everyone's cup of tea, but if you like it, maybe give this lady a call... her name's Doris, she let me put down a deposit sight unseen before I moved here and was really helpful when I arrived... 619.224.0759

I'm currently living in Pacific Beach and was wondering if anyone could tell me the difference between the two communities, Ocean Beach and Pacific Beach. I live off Garnet Ave. and it is nice to be within walking distance to everything I need, groceries/restaurants/bars. Are there any places in OB that have a similar place for nightlife, or that are close enough to walk to get groceries and food and stuff? Also, I eat a lot of fast food b/c it is cheap, I try not to pay more than $3 for meals except occasionally.

Anyways, a rundown on the differences between OB and PB, including nightlife, people, rent prices, and places to go would be appreciated. I'm currently playing $975 for a decent studio in a condo complex, water paid, $10 electric bill. Thanks.

i don't know enough to compare, but OB is definitely a walking kind of place. i walk to the grocery store and to the bars. Seems like rent is comparable to PB. that's all i got.

alright here it is for you from a san diego local.

ocean beach is more hippie-ish, open minded, young and old. Good community, very friendly people. good local bars. can walk to the beach pretty much no matter where you are. good local markets as well as a farmers market every wed. on the main st (Newport Ave.) Good food all around.

the parking can be rough if you dont have a reserved spot with your place. but it isnt unbearable in my opinion. ( I lived in San Francisco for 6 years with a truck, so i know unbearable). Pretty much you can get on the Interstate 5 or 8 within 5 - 10 min from OB. This is not always true with Pacific Beach, even though its the same driving distance to the freeways.

pacific beach is pretty much a college community that includes the people that couldn't go to college still there. Beautiful area if you're not into the bar scene. Lots of good restaurants. 5 - 10 minute bike ride to the beach no matter where you are. (dont go buy a brand new beach cruiser kooks.)

PB is an overall very trendy area where you can go to a bar in casual clothes or go to the bar down the street looking as good as you can. Either way its the same environment for the most part. Parking sucks. Traffic around PB can suck cause that is the "cool" place to go to on weekends. the people watching is amazing. Say what up to slo-mo for me on the boardwalk.

hillcrest / city heights is the hipster hangout. some area can be a little sketchy but nothing too insane. bars within walking distance. its all flat for easy biking. But the area can get backed up everyonce in a while making traffic sucking. Parking is also a pain in the ass. If you havent figured out parking sucks everywhere you want to live. get a bike.

downtown is expensive, sketchy, overrated and the "coolest" place to be in San Diego if you have money. Get a nice condo near the ballpark. and yes the fireworks go off after every game. take cabs everywhere on weekends as youll most likely get a dui somehow.
traffic? you're in downtown. of course there will be traffic.
but regardless of the cynicism if you have a good income you just might like it. make sure you have the right shoes and haircut though.

and for the women, San Diegan Men are not *******s. only the non-local ones are .

***go home nazbos***
