Default HELP! East Coast Family moving to San Diego

HI! My husband and I will be moving to San Diego around June. We are both from the east coast and only my husband has ever been there (1 week only). We have 3 children (4,6, and 8) and are trying to find a nice place to live. We need an area where we can hopefully get a 4 bedroom. His paygrade is E-6 so i think our BAH is around 2100? I'm trying to finish my college up (only 2-3 semesters left!) He will be working on a ship (he'll be at 32nd street i think?)

We want the area to be safe as he'll be coming and going and I'm not a big girl but i'm a fighter! LOL... We want our kids to be in a good school system with a safe school. Parks being close or even yards would be ideal. I've heard alot of names of places being thrown around...heard El Cajon and Escondido (sp?) are not good but La Mesa and Murphy canyon and East lake are great? Any advice or reccomemdations would be awesome. THANKS!

Base housing would be best. Check out www.lincolnmilitaryhousing.com. Which base will he be stationed at? If he's going to be on a ship, it could be any of them. There's lots of base housing in Murphy Canyon, and the elementary schools (Hancock and Miller) are mostly military kids.

Naval Station San Diego is all I know. He's gonna be on a ship. We thought about base housing but the waitlist is so long for 4BR's. Read at a few of the communites it's 6-12 months.

That would be 32nd Street. How far of a commute does he want? Check out Craiglist in your price range, and post the addresses on here. Escondido is too far, but La Mesa, Clairemont, and Lemon Grove are closer. Tierrasanta would be good, lots of military live there.

Default Eastlake Chula Vista

Hi,
We were stationed in San Diego for a couple of years and were East Coasters as well. My wife was stationed at Balboa Naval Hospital and we settled in Eastlake area of Chula Vista. WE absolutely LOVED the area, its the most safest area we ever lived in. It's not a long commute to 32nd St base or Balboa Hospital. There is a nice commissary at 32nd street and one at Imperial Beach which is where we shopped mostly for convenience.
The Eastlake area which is EAST of the 805 has alot of shopping , good schools and lots and lots of parks. Beaches are not far and lots of recreation
in San Diego as a whole. There's a nice water park in south Chula Vista.
We went kicking a screaming to San Diego and then we went kicking and screaming back to the east coast. I hope you this helps you in your decision and hope you enjoy San Diego as much as we did.
