No offense so I hope you don't take my post the wrong way. But publicly posting how much of a loser and financial sink hole your franchise is .... isn't the best way to sell it. With the power of Google "spidering" I wouldn't think it would be so wise to post just how "disenfranchised" (no pun intended) you are with your business you are trying to sell.

Realistically, any potential wise buyer will do a ton of due diligence and pour over your financials anyway, but probably posting about it on public forums won't help your chances of selling your Domino's franchise.

I know when I sold my franchise/business, the acquiring company did a ton of due diligence and poured over the numbers and business for a good 8 months. Sending down operations, management, legal team and especially accounting team.

As lovesautumn and cruitr mentioned, it will be difficult for your husband to find a corporate job at that age under the circumstances. I'm not saying it's impossible because it's not. But most potential employers will look at him as "untrainable". Realistically he has been self-employed for the past 25 years. That won't be looked upon as a positive but a negative in most corporate employer's eyes.

When you have worked for yourself for that long, you get used to doing your own thing, etc. Also, they will look at the reasons surrounding his leaving the company and from what you mention, he is leaving it as it failed and it's losing money so they will look at that as well (at least I would as an employer). It's one thing if he is selling a successful business and getting out and quite another to be escaping a failing business enterprise that is losing money.

Cruitr offers some good advice but even then, you have to consider that most corporate franchise operators are going to be looking at successful franchise owners to get out and sell things or for operations. But it might be a good idea to just completely disassociate with anything having to do with food franchises as it's clear you guys are negative on them so it might not be healthy to work with anything associated with them as it doesn't sound like you believe in them.

Also, if things are that bad and the business has continually lost money... why not just close it down?

Why San Diego? I'd think someone that has tremendous debt and wants a new start on life, especially having kids would look at more economically feasible areas around the country. Is San Diego the best choice for you and your family?

Again, please don't take my post the wrong way. I just always believe in giving out realistic advice. I think many times on these forums people are afraid to do that and sugarcoat everything when that isn't the best thing for many people asking difficult questions.

I wish you the best of luck.

I agree with everyone else here. The food service industry is highly competetive. Anyone that I know that has run a successful franchise has always had a long term plan in place. For example owning several UPS stores in the region and expaning that portfolio. Thats about the only time I have seen profit because they are generating revenue from multiple streams but with similar business models. The one store or restaurant, they would tell me, was always a money pit, but they always had other careers and the franchise thing was more of a long term goal.

So I was thinking about what skills he brings besides 'hard work'. Not trynig to diminish that aspect because its an excellent one, but is he efficient?
I have/had A LOT of employees that work hard but cost the company money because they simply lack the ability to be efficient and handle a set of tasks that require 8 hours at most. Instead, they work 14 hours because they were simply inefficient with the spaces in between where that could have been filled.

What about starting his own business? Small business owners have far more flexibility than a franchisee would. It would seem a waste to have all of those years of experience to only work for someone else, at least from where I am sitting. I am certain there is someone out there with a great idea looking for someone that needs his experience either as a consultant or partner.
