The North/South of 8 idea is just not correct. Anyone who thinks Mission Hills is worse than Linda Vista, or that Bay Park is better than Alvarado Estates is a loon.

I live south of 8 and I am happy as a clam. That said, my kids (who graduated from Poway schools) are grown and have their own homes. If I had children in school I wouldn't live in my current neighborhood. That's the freedom that comes with empty nesting. You don't have to pick neighborhoods for their schools anymore. I am down in the city, 7-9 miles from Fashion Valley, Horton Plaza, the Gaslamp, Balboa Park, the ocean, Symphony Hall etc. I am loving it. Other than my children and grandchild, there is nothing north of 8 I need to travel for. I have everything of interest to me here south of 8.

It does seem to be a California thing, but would imagine the same thing goes on in other parts of the country.

There are many nice areas S of the 8. If they are happy there ya! I haven't seen anyone complaining about this topic that lives N of the 8.

In the end, who cares really?

I've noticed more of it here for sure. Unfortunately some of it seems to be manifest in the form of a lot of blanket snobbery on this forum at times as well. IMHO of course.

Yeah...San Diegans can be just as smug as San Franciscans, at times. Then again, with the weather we've been having lately, can you blame us?

New border is 56, i.e... "I won't even go south of 56 anymore". Heard that one at work once.

Good grief........so La Jolla, Scripps Ranch, Carmel Valley, among others, may as well be lumped into City Heights? Would you mind giving me your co-workers extension number so I can get to the bottom of this?
