Hey I'm visiting San Diego for a couple days and I'll be playing some golf at Torrey Pines on Tuesday...how much of a delay can I expect driving south from Carlsbad to La Jolla? I'll be driving over there at 9 in the morning. Thanks.

You could always take the Coast Highway for all or part of the trip. You can avoid freeway traffic (there are lots of stop signs, though) and see some cool coastal scenery. If you take the 5, I'd give yourself 30 minutes to get from Carlsbad to the course.

I'd take 101 all the way down like Encinitan said. Much more enjoyable ride. More than likely, it will take you 5-10 minutes longer, if that.

Plus, I love looking at all the exotic cars when I pass "Cardiff Classics" in Encinitas and passing the Self-Realization temple on the way to Cardiff.

And the view leaving Del Mar and heading down toward Torrey Pines State Beach is amazing! Oh hell, just take the coast highway the whole way.

If you do drive the I5 it gets slow right where you will be getting off at Del Mar.
