I'm moving to San Diego from Philadelphia at the end of August. My new job is right off the 33B exit in Carmel Valley(?) off the I-5. We are thinking about getting an apartment in either La Jolla (Windansea area) or NOrth Pacific Beach or Pacific Beach around sail bay. What's the commute like? Are any of these places better in terms of commute times? Work schedule will be like 8 am - 6 pm.
Thanks! (I'm coming from a commute time of a 20 minute walk!)

I start a new job next week right at the 5/56 interchange. From what I've seen there is slowing before and after the 805/5 merge which extends south on 805 to about Governor Dr and south on 5 to about La Jolla Village drive. The rest of the southbound commute seems to keep moving. The really bad traffic is all north of there, from Del Mar to Oceanside.

So I am guessing from my house (near SDSU) I am looking at about 45-60 minutes if I leave home and work a little early (i.e. 7-4). From north PB or La Jolla I would think about 30-45 minutes is reasonable. If you can avoid rush hour it's more like a 20 minute ride.

Also I am looking at trying the trolley -> coaster -> bus which on paper takes 50 minutes and gets you right to where all the high-rises over there.
