I learned something today! Thank you - will keep it in mind for my future home!

Most recently I acted as my own contractor to remodel most of the master bath. I put in the new lighting fixture, new medicine cabinet, replaced the mirror, towel rack, and toilet tissue holder, as well as painting the room. We had someone lay marmoleum, an eco friendly flooring, this included new base boards and setting the new toilet. My son installed the new vanity cabinet and I contracted for a company to fabricate the counter top and install it with sink and faucet. It's decent now but someday I will replace the tub/shower doors and fixtures. We are approaching the kitchen and yard the same way, bit by bit.
welcome to desert living.

I am an Interior Designer so I will relay my thoughts:

At lot of your decision making will be dependent on your budget. If you are looking to just do few things like picking paint, flooring, furniture etc than I would select an Interior Designer. They will be able to help you select items that will make everything go together (Btw, there is an order of operations of when you remodel a home and paint is one of the last stops). Look at their portfolios to make sure you like what you see.
You will want to seek out an architect if you are doing extensive remodeling like moving walls etc. You may still will want to have an Interior Designer to make sure that all the interior finishes go together with the rest of the house because most architects are not as familiar with the fixtures and finishes etc. If you don't have the money for an architect, then select an either an Interior Designer or a Kitchen and Bath Designer plus a good contractor.

My confusion is that if I select this individually then there is chance that not all things may blend together.

So should be hire a interior designer or got to remodel store, who can give us the designs and based on the bids we receive from contractors, we can decide whether to do kitchen first or flooring or paint?

Some suggestions: As both an owner of a remodeling company and designer I would suggest you locate a company that offers both services that you feel comfortable with.
In theory that company should be able to tell you what is the best order to do work. Not only do you save money by combining all the project with one company but the work should be completed a lot faster.

Ask questions unitil you understand. Make sure you ask for references to ensure the work gets done but how comfortable previous customers are to working with that said company.
