San Diego has all of those things. Every single one.

Overall, it looks pretty American, but some things about it remind me of Japan (expenses, crowds, traffic, smaller houses built close together and less yard space, technology, low crime rate), while climate wise it reminds me of Australia which also why the vegetation is similar. In fact, they imported Eucalyptus trees from there. Furthermore, for obvious reasons (being only 15 miles from the border), it has characteristics of Mexico with the people, culture, and food.
I love Mexicans, especially the women.

San Diego shares some traits with the Mediterranean coast: architectural style, year round pleasant tempatures, fairly sunny, a marine layer, a mariner culture, little average rain fall, shrubs & similar faunas, and a nice breeze off the water. But just because San Diego shares these traits, it definitely doesn't make it look foreign.

Some may believe that because of San Diego's proximity to the border, the city would have the look of a Mexican city. I would ask that you visit Ciudad de México or Nuévo Larédo for perspective. Take a long drive through Mexico and remark on their roads, public safety while driving and available commodities (drinking water comes to mind). San Diego has little similarities with Mexican cities.

"Does SD looks like a foreign city," doesnt make sense to me. It was stated, compared to what. I kind of infere the question as a bit xenophobic. We are all Americans and it shouldn't matter our color. But I'll comment and say that San Diego is a white majority, mostly republican city. Very American indeed!

At the top of the San Diego forum is a picture thread. Anyone who questions if San Diego looks like a foreign country, should take a gander. The proof is in the pudding.

<3 San Diego
