Default We whant to move in San Diego,in a safe, nice, and urban place near airport.

Hello,
I like to move in a few months(3-4) in San Diego, from North Virginia, with my husband an my little son. My husband works from home and he travel a lot, and we have to rent something near airport. Which is the nice area, where I can walk with my son and be safe, restaurants, magazines and green area? The budget is max.1400$ 2 bed. I have watched in craiglist but I don't know which areA is good or bad. I read are a nice area: Mission Valley, Fashion Valley, Misyon Bay, Point Loma, Mission Hills or Ocean Beach?..all are near airport..
Thanks for any advice.
JD

urban neighborhoods near airport include:
Little Italy--cafes, walkable, safe, can get loud. You could literally walk to the airport. Unlikely to find a 2br in your price range. Marina neighborhood also close but it is pretty much all luxury condos.

Bankers Hill- next to balboa park so near lots of green space. fewer cafes-walk to little italy ~5-10 min, but nice area. Airplane noise can bother some. Hard, but not impossible in your price point. Park West may also be mentioned in Bankers Hill listings-same general area and really nice.

Cortez Hill-we walk 5-10 min to the bus for the airport. Possible to find something in price range, there are a few smaller complexes that might have something in your range(they are little neighborhood places and won't have a website). Very safe, walkable and quiet. You can walk to Balboa park. There is a cute little children's park on 9th and date. Cafe life-must take a walk to little Italy or gaslamp (10 min each)

Pt Loma-less urban, more suburban in character but close to airport. really nice to slightly seedy depending where you are.

The absolute best location for you, with everything you want, would be Mission Hills - if you can find something in your price range. I'm not sure if Mission Hills has 2 bedroom 1 bath apartments in the $1400/month range. Be sure to include South Mission Hills in your search. That is where you are most likely to find something affordable.

Much of Point Loma is a pleasant residential area, and the residential area is quite walkable, however the commercial areas that I know best are along wide busy auto-centered areas. However, the apartments are not located in the residential area, they would be in the commercial area. You would need to choose carefully to ensure you are not living along a major motorway.

Ocean Beach is a walkable community, with an interesting commercial area. Also, it's funky enough that you might find something in your price range. On the other hand, it's a pretty funky area, so be prepared for the unusual.

Mission Valley/Fashion Valley (they are essentially the same place) may meet your budget, however beyond the confines of the large apartment complexes the area is very autocentric. It's not conducive to walking at all.

Mission Bay has plenty of apartments and there is a busy beach vibe going on with its commercial area. However, I'm not sure how far away from the beach you would need to be to find an apartment in the $1400 range.

Also, I would include University Heights into your search. University Heights has a 3 block commercial area with Trolley Barn Park another few blocks further on. It's a little bit further east of the other areas you've mentioned, but the added distance is not significant. You could still reach the airport by both the freeway and surface streets.

I should add mission/fashion valley are not urban or walkable. A paved paradise and put up a parking lot type place. Mission HILLS is very nice but agree it would be very hard to find something in your budget.

Is important to be nice, urban(to much quiet is to much for me) green area, safe, because I like to walk to my son in the park, or area. I sow little Itally is veryyy nice, but a little bit expensive for our budget. I will search something near.

Just up in the hill from downtown, Golden Hill and South Park where I live is nice- adjacent Balboa Park, very walkable, village urban- and way close to airport. When we pick up anybody its always "call us when you land" less than 10 minutes away and about $14 bucks in a cab. Its a great neighborhood

I work in Mission Valley (between Fashion Valley and Mission Valley Center and find the area VERY walkable. I can leave my office on foot and walk to grocery shopping, drugstores, many restaurants, two movie theaters, an entire shopping mall etc. You could easily manage walking to all kinds of businesses in Mission Valley. Parks, I don't think so other than River Walk which a lot of women avoid because it is popular with vagrants.

Banker's Hill/Hillcrest would probably give you the most bang for your buck and are walkable and close to the airport, downtown, Little Italy, and Balboa Park.

Mission Valley and City Heights (close to University) have the worst/most inattentive drivers IMO.

Mission Valley is walkable but it is an area with wide, busy streets filled with lost tourists, driving while texters, inebriated sports fans, last-minute shoppers, and folks rushing to/escaping from Costco and Ikea. It doesn't seem too inviting for pedestrians with children...

Mission valley is pretty much a huge shopping area. I guess it is walkable if you define a mall as walkable. Let's just say I would not want to live in a mall but to each their own
