San Diego, CA restaurant drinking laws for minors
We are coming to San Diego for my son's graduation from the Marine boot camp, and my husband would like for him to have a beer with our lunch. He is 18; if his parents are with him can he have a beer in the restaurant?

Doubt it. Legal drinking age is 21. That's a federal, not state law.

Legal drinking age - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Quote:
New York permits those under twenty-one to drink in restaurants provided that they are with a parent or guardian, the alcohol is poured (if applicable) by the parent or guardian, the parent or guardian hands the drink to the minor person, and the minor person is not seated at the bar.
As of 2006, 20 states do not specifically ban underage consumption and an additional 15 states have family member and/or location exceptions to their underage consumption laws. [3]
Federal law explicitly provides for religious, medical, employment and private club possession exceptions; as of 2005, 31 states have family member and/or location exceptions to their underage possession laws.
Underage purchase of alcohol, though illegal in all fifty states, is not a federal offense, although restrictions on highway funding for states that allow it make it illegal federally de facto.

Even states can have their own drinking law.

I need to find out the tattoo laws in San Diego. Can a minor get one with parental permission, and with the parent present? My daughter and I want to get matching shoulder tattoo's.

Anyone under 18 can get a tattoo with a parent release even though there are some that don't even care how old the person is.

only in private homes...
There is no federal drinking law. in the 80's the feds threatened to withhold funds from states that didn't pass "no sale to under 21" laws, so all 50 states passed such laws. In CA a person under 21 cannot drink in public, including public spaces such as restraunts or clubs and other places where the public may venture. They can imbibe in private homes. If however the under 21 year old person is visibly drunk and ventures out onto "public" spaces they can be cited even if they are not in possession. And if they have any alcohol in their system and are caught driving, they will get a dui and mip.
