I'm considering a move to San Diego with a company that offices near Poway. Please offer advise for cities/subdivisions which would be good for a family of four with two 8 year olds. "Good" for me is an area with low crime, good public schools, nice size home/yard in the $600k range. Oh, I'd a 30-40 minute commute. I've just started looking so I may have to adjust some of this after I conduct some research. thanks.

You could live in Poway, have all that you're looking for, and a much shorter commute.

I agree with oddstray. Everything you need is in Poway.

Here's a sample house: SDLookup.com | 13278*Vinter*Way - MLS# 110017198

Default Thanks

Thank you oddstray and cruitr. Are there nearby communities that might offer the same level schools systems and safety but offer larger yards?

Probably not within your housing budget. Poway has many homes with large lots. But they are usually $1M+.

Here's a Poway house on a full acre:

bjs,

Have you looked at La Mesa? Nice lot sizes, decent schools (supposedly) and about a 20 min drive to Scripps Poway area.
SDLookup.com | 9406*Hilmer*Dr - MLS# 110023086

This is San Diego. Larger lot sizes in decent school districts start in the $1 million+ category for a newer home.
Older sometimes smaller homes with decent sized lots can be had for around 500-600k.

Everything else is a 2 story tract with tiny lots, lots of rules and gated with other amenities like pool, gym or park at your disposal.

Possibly in Rancho Penasquitos or Rancho Bernardo. They're neighborhoods of San Diego, not Poway, but they do use the Poway Unified School District.

Yeah I'd say stick with Poway...it's a very nice community.
