Hi,

We have lived in UTC apartments for 5 yrs and just considered buying a home. We like a house in carmel mountain but have no idea about what it is like to live there.
Specifically I would like to know about -
1. elementary(Shoal creek)/middle schools in the area.
2. How friendly is the neighborhood for Asians(south asians)? The word "fitting-in" did not matter much all these years when life revolved around work mostly. But suddenly family, kids, home etc makes me want to worry about the social aspects too.

Would appreciate your input a lot. Thanks.

As in Carmel Mountain Ranch area? Well, it's PUSD, so you can pretty much put a giant 'check' next to 'good schools'. Friendliness to asians? OK, I'm not asian (see screenname), but I wouldn't think any area of SD is all that hostile to asians given the high percentage of asians within a majority of the communities (CMR definitely included).

I go to Carmel Mountain Ranch shopping center all the time and it feels like a nice family community where ethnicity doesn't matter. I'm not too sure about their schools but I heard they are great.

You mean south asian as in India? I don't see as many people from that region in Carmel Mountain, but that doesn't mean they're not in the area. Most Indians I've seen seem to live around the Mira Mesa area, close to Miramar College/Black Mountain Rd.

Or are you talking about Filipino? What I've seen in the last 10 years is the diffusion of Filipinos from a central hub of Mira Mesa. They're moving up the 15 into areas like PQ/Carmel Mountain and Rancho Bernardo. So if you're talking about Filipino, there are plenty of them in the area.

I see Asians from all over in the shopping areas around Carmel Mountian Ranch. I don't think you'll have any trouble fitting in. And it's Poway Unified School District, which has among the best schools in the area.

There are plenty of Indians in CMR. Just take a trip there, hang out at the mall and have lunch. You will see people of all kinds of origin.

I live nearby and see this.

As mentioned, it is PUSD (which means they have good schools).

I have lived in CMR for 15 years and all four of my children have grown up there. A lot of our neighbors are Asian. There are many in the area. I think you will be very happy living there. There is no discrimination that I have seen. Just a rapidly growing, pleasant community.
