Hi All,

I know this is a very general question but I was wondering if it is a good idea to drive back home on Friday night for the long weekend. I've only lived here for a few months so I don't have a good idea on how bad traffic is going to LA on a holiday weekend. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Avoid rush hour and you'll be fine. As a general rule traffic flows out of LA on Friday evenings & Saturday mornings (as folks leave LA for weekend trips to San Diego, Santa Barbara, Vegas, or what not) then on Sunday afternoons the flow of traffic is back into the city. Your trip will be the opposite of the general traffic flow so baring any accidents it should be smooth sailing.

AM 1070 is a radio station which does traffic alerts for the LA & OC area freeways every 8 minutes so you can get up to the minute traffic info while traveling.

I used to do SD to LB drive all the time. After 6PM it's a breeze, take the toll road (73 I believe). Wildcard is 405, you can hit a jam at any time on that festering $h!th0le of a freeway ;-)

Yes, the toll road is definitely worth the $4 to $5 fee - I've NEVER seen bad traffic on it, and it's the "scenic route".
