Am thinking of moving to Lakeside. What is that area like? (crime, weather, things to do, etc).

It gets hot! Lakeside is inland, and is in East County, nowhere near the beaches.

Its East County....older East County which means rural to suburban but more rural. It is going through some changes though. Compared to coastal San Diego its considered 'redneck' and it is in some instances.
However the change that is happening is due to development and freeway expansion. THe 52 was recently extended out into that area which means getting to the major freeways will be far easier than before where side streets were needed. Its also less expensive real estate wise.

I have not heard of too much crime out there or things to do except in nearby Santee or up the hill in Barona to go gambling.

It can get warm there in the summer as some parts sit in a valley, the heat can get trapped in there. BUt that is being picky if you are coming from a place like Phoenix. Its all relative.

FOr example I live in "east county" on the border with San Diego, go two miles due north near SDSU and its warmer due to elevation and other factors. SD's topography can really make a difference depending on location. Generally speaking once you hit 20 miles inland and start getting into the valley areas, you can feel the temp difference compared to the coastal areas.

this might not be the right thread to ask this, but where I wonder what areas are the more thrify "cool" (temps) areas. I even find a temp difference between North Park and downtown. Maybe Morena area? that looks like it has some affordable places. I now prices are higher the closer you get to the coast, but I wonder if there are under appreciated communities that are cooler temps wise

Nice area, the roastosity factor in the summer can get out of hand though.

Clevelandgail,

Yes Clairemont and Bayho have some prices in high 3's to low 4's starting.

Housing quality can range from unkept to completely remodeled. Once you go over the hill east in Clairemont temps can be warmer compared to the westward facing areas.

San Diego is funny that way with the micro climates.
For example where I am, I am in a "funnel" where ocean breezes blow through the 54/125 corridor from the south. THis impacts the temps where I am where it can be just as cool as some parts closer to the coast. Its all topography.
I also get the marine layer these days but it can burn off by 10am and once I drive 1 mile west, marine layer is there for a couple of more hours.
Its definitely not nearly as drastic as a weather report would show because its all relative to where the weather stations are set. So many times coast will show 72, inland 81 (La Mesa) but where I am its around 75.

This same effect is in Scripps Ranch where my company has an office. The building is in a "funnel" where the breezes come from Del Mar and blow through. Once I go to the strip mall off of Scripps Poway Pkwy, not even a half mile away it can get REALLY warm.

Outside of Clariremont I might say Leucadia, but even Leucadia is pricey IMHO.

The old part of Lakeside, the area off of the freeway, is deteriorating and has way too many apartments. Lake Jennings towards the 8 is a really nice custom home area and then Eucalytus Hills is an older large-lot area northeast of the downtown. Winter Gardens is more contiguous with El Cajon and it's more like like parts of Vista where you have nice homes and views and really ratty homes too. Unless you need a lot of space for animals I would personally choose Mt Helix over Lakeside, it's closer-in and has more highly upgraded mini-estate type homes.
