Question San Marcos to Poway commute time?

Relocating to San Diego in about a month. Looking at renting in San Marcos. One possible job opportunity recently presented in Poway. I read that it is about 18 miles from San Marcos. Wondering how long the commute takes?

It depends on what time you commute and in which direction. Ever since they have widened I-15 and added the express lanes the commute has been much easier. It used to be a mess trying to get across Lake Hodges.

Check this link throughout the day for typical commutes in SD County.

Definitely time-dependent. I-15 South past 78 can be a real pain, although it has been slightly lessened due to the improvements futbol mentioned. Unless you're going to be on the road prior to 7, I would estimate 30-40 minutes one way.

Depends on where you work in Poway- the further you get inside Poway the more time consuming the drive gets to the 15. Lots of lights and less lanes.

78 is not a whole lot fun either and 15 North/78 on ramp is usually backed up a ways. If you have traditional work hours- you have a snails pace from around Felicita Rd. Exit to the 78 on ramp. 78 is also terrible for accidents as well- there always seems to be a fender bender on that road.

You can avoid the 78 if you considered living in Escondido- which is very similar to San Marcos (if you take San Elijo out of the picture).

If you can get on the 15 before around 6:20-6:40 am then you should be ok. After that it will already be backed up on 78 getting onto the 15. The 15 will be slow as well. Not the worst commute in the world, but it will get super old. Do what you gotto do.

If you have young children middle school or elementary school make sure to check out rentals in San Elijo Hills (san marcos) an award winning master planned community.
