Default moving to so cal with family

My boyfriend was recently transfered to So Cal from Utah, his office is in Colton but we definitly DO NOT want to live anywhere in that area. We have 7 kids between the two of us, looking for a family friendly and affordable area to live. My office will be in Brea and I would prefer a short commute, he doesn't mind a longer one. We've been told Brea, Irvine, Mission Viejo and Laguna Niguel are great but all those seem a little pricey, any advice?
