Looking at a late Oct visit to SD. What activities are a must for two adults, plus a 5 year old? Probably will be there for about 4 days.

If you're going to be here on Oct 22nd and want to see a local event, there's a big Halloween parade at 10am. The parade is a family event and the route is walking distance (south) of San Diego State University. Here's the website: BOO! Parade and Carnival

There is always the Zoo or the Wild Animal Park which now goes by another name with Safari in the title. Then there is Lego Land and Sea World. All of these have admission prices. The Zoo and Safari are the most reasonable. There is also a children's museum in downtown San Diego.

For a free activity-you are going to need one after draining your wallet at all the other kid attractions- I would go check the seals and sea lions in La Jolla cove-this is if you are from a sea lion-less locale, otherwise probably won't be a big deal.
