Yes, but 33 miles in 22 minutes is not 1 mile per minute.

So my actual speed varied between 45 and 70 for the trip most likely. Once out of the twists and turns it is simply a superior road and in fact the banking on the turns is well done. I had no problem being comfy in my 4Runner at 50 through some of the turns.

I will have to get an exact figure shortly.

AA,

This kind of story was the deal breaker why we chose not to buy our primary residence in Ramona. Something similar happened a day after went up there to look at houses.

Just one crash on the 67 will shut it down indefinitely. Its not so much about getting out, its coming back in. There are alternate routes, but they will a considerable amount of time to your commute should a crash like this arise.

Appreciated. I work 2-3 days per week and my new bride is a realtor who works from home most of the time save 2 days per week in the office. However, you are correct when it happens it IS a problem if it's my day to work.

Thanks.

I've been biking on Palomar Mountain and I took the 78 back to the city. It took me 35 minutes to drive this route

CA-78 W/Julian Rd to CA-67 S - Google Maps

Judging by the traffic going in the opposite direction, the reverse trip would've taken at least 50 min.

What time was your trip?

A sample size of one trip during rush hour isn't going to give you the usual picture. Even in my short commute from RP to RB, I'm amazed at the difference in the amount of traffic and delay from day to day.

Agreed. I am comfortable with the drive for a number of reasons. The roads are in very good shape. It's pretty rolling hills etc. I am used to conditions far worse than here. If traffic shuts down, I turn around and find a Marriott...right?

The sheer joy of living in a beautiful place (with a reasonable work schedule) will make up for many a traffic hassle. The area is one of the loveliest in all of SoCal. I wouldn't worry too much about the commute, either, if you're used to driving long distances in Alaska. Just bring lots of CDs, water and snacks. Which you're probably used to doing in AK, too.

One thing, though--make sure you know of all the new locations of the SDGE power towers going up in the back country right now before you purchase property with a view. I don't mind the economy growing and more tax payers coming in, but do they have to destroy pristine spectacular scenery to make it happen?

Thanks. Key point. And, yes it's worth it IMO.
