I used to go out to Imperial County frequently as I had friends out there. As far as the cities and towns go it really depends on where you are. El Centro is not so bad really and neither is Imperial. The two blur into one another. Not much to do in any of those places really. Seely and Brawley are ok but very dull. Calipatria is like being on a different planet.

Calipatria is near Plaster City so I think you're talking about the same one.

that's what I love about California. You can sit at the beach, hike in the mountains, and drive through the desert all in one day.

This is especially true if you live in San Diego. Go to the beach, then go for a hike in the mountains, then end the day camping in the sanddunes of Imperial County. Only in California!
