Hey Diegans,

I am looking fo some good cheap eats either in the Point Loma and downtown area. By good I mean reasonably healthy and/or organic. Salad bars are a plus.

Thanks!

Tender Greens, located in Liberty Station in Point Loma. Wonderful organic, locally sourced foods and a seasonal menu. Consistently tasty and always busy!

El Zarape in University Heights (on Park). Awesome burritos.

Tender Greens is good but moderate pricing. I did not like El Zarape; surprisingly, local chain MXN (formerly Santana's) has the best fish tacos in town.

I don't get it with MXN. We've eaten at the Sabre Springs, and RP places. Disliked the food in both places - it may have been fresh, but it was poor quality and so not very nice.

Surprisingly, MXN (bad name, I like Santana's) is consistently good, as I would not have suspected it - maybe b/c things are done simply so key flavors stand out. At times, I like Bull Taco and Luche Libre and Mama Testes (sic), but they actually can be hit and miss depending on visit. I think I've only really been to MXN on Washington St. in Mission Hills in case location makes a difference, but it is a smaller local chain so I suspect maybe not.

I'm not a huge fan of MXN. Seems just ok.

Habaneros on Mira Mesa is one of my favorite Mexican food restaurants. Their fish tacos are decent, but the carne asada and salsa are delish.

El Camol in Poway is very good, too.
