Hmmm....there ARE tons of homeless people in NJ! NJ also has some nice beaches-nice enough to attract hordes of tourists from all over the country.

If weather is your main concern. SD. is great. Be sure to negotiate a salary of at least $80-100k. Otherwise you will struggle here. Especially if you add a wife and child. Personally, i would leave NJ. too but not for California. Too expensive here.

I realize this is an old thread ... but since it's been revived ....

San Diego is a great place to live. Period.

You will love the beautiful scenery, palm trees everywhere, mountains and deserts, beaches, and the list goes on and on.

The weather is the best in the U.S. It is sunny and comfortable (not too hot or too cold) the majority of days of the year. It hardly ever rains. The only snow we have is in the nearby mountains, which you can drive to if you like to ski. We basically have Spring like weather all year-round.

New Jersey isn't a horrible place to live either, depending on what section you live in. Some areas of Camden, Trenton and Newark are frightening. But areas like Cherry Hill, Tom's River, New Brunswick, Manalapan, and some northwestern parts are very nice. Some beaches in NJ are very nice and family oriented, like Seaside Heights, and other Tom's River area beaches. Southern beaches around Atlantic City are less appealing, except for the casinos. Rush-hour traffic in NJ can be atrocious if you live in the northern areas near NYC. And the weather in NJ has good and bad points. NJ has all 4 seasons, so you get to view the beautiful leaves in the fall. But you also have huge snow blizzards during the very cold winters.

So, give San Diego a try. You can always move back if you don't like it. Or you can consider moving from San Diego to an entirely new area instead of NJ.
