Default Moving to San Diego - Need safe neighborhood advice for toddler!

My family is moving to San Diego in May and I would like to get some advice on where to live. I would like to find an area safe for a toddler, maybe a nice park nearby, and in a close proximity to Coronado Island. I have a 65 pd dog so what I really would like to find is a townhouse OR house with a fenced yard and a garage. I would prefer 1500+ sq ft and our budget is $1850/mth. I have been reading up and I am thinking maybe South Park, but am not sure if it is a good and overall safe neighborhood?

Thank you for your help!

Not too bad of a neighborhood...

How far are you willing to drive to Coronado?

Try Bay Park or Clairemont [especially bordering bay park, on tecolote canyon, also called the ' mountain streets', b/c of names 'mt. such and such, etc']. Search the threads here and look at maps to see what areas. Lots of cul-de-sacs and homes, as well as townhomes, in clairemont; it's middle class mostly 50's-70's style homes. Avoid north clairemont near clairemont square, however; it's not as safe.

If you want to commute further and get a little more upscale, Carmel Valley is fantastic for families, though generic suburbia.

If you want an artsy vibe with cafes, etc. then look at: Normal Heights,[north of adams ave] and parts of north park, south park, mission hills, etc. But you wont' get as much for your money.

Try also searching craigs list just to get an idea of prices and photos, for these areas.
