Default North on the 15

Is the traffic on the 15 between Miramar and Vista the same going north as it is south? It looks like I'll be working in Miramar and my wife will be working in Vista. Any suggestions or are we just SOL? We're moving from the Boston area so we are already used to long, painful commutes, but anything over an hour is pushing my limit.

It's much, much worse going north than south if you use Miramar as the dividing line, although there is some congestion around Miramar road and again at Aero drive on the southbound commute. If you want to avoid traffic, live south of fwy 56.

Like Sass said, going north is a breeze. The only spot you need to worry about is getting onto the 78 there at the 15. It can get backed up. There is also some congestion on the 78 in Vista near the 5 exits.

I-15 northbound is OK during the morning rush hour, and OK southbound in the evening as long as there's nothing going on at Petco or the Q.

If the two of you are driving different directions, one of you will have a slow commute.

I-15 in general is messed up somewhat by construction from Mira Mesa up to the junction with 78. That will probably continue for a couple more years. By the time the construction is finished there'll be Yet More Development so I don't know whether traffic will ever be any better.

Sheesh, I wish this place would hire someone who has a clue about making mass transit work!
