What is up with K.U.S.I.? The news anchors and reporters are a weird mixture of old angry Republican men and hot housewife bimbos. They can't get through one news story without the old men chiming in with their ultra Republican opinions or the women anchors saying things like "ohhh yeahhh I totally agree" as they giggle in their chairs.

Dave Scott the weather man doesn't seem so conservative. They also have Sasha Foo as their one and only token minority.
Both of which are on the weekends.

All in all, I enjoy K.U.S.I at 10 PM despite their obvious right wing tendencies, its either them or CW6. All the other news don't start until 11PM and that when Conan is on.

Has anyone had the unfortunate experience of seeing the K.U.S.I. Weekend morning news? It's a clown show. They are always laughing, saying stupid things, and adding their opinions about everything. Dave Scott the weather guy is the only professional guy on that newscast. The channel in general is a clone of the national Fox News.

Do I think San Diego's news stations seem small townish, unprofessional? No! We moved here from the Midwest and watch news primarily on NBC (7 on Cox) and Channel 6 (the CW). We think both are great! (And KPBS is great too.)

When we were looking at moving here last year I tried YouTubing local weather forecasts and came upon Pat Brown's reports on ABC 10 -- and so "out of habit" that's the station we started watching once we moved here.

After some sampling around now that we're here, we've stuck with ABC 10 because we've found their newscasts to be the most professional overall -- evenings, weekends, mornings. Solid slate of anchors and reporters with seemingly no weak links. Kimberly Hunt is as smooth and professional a local anchor as I've seen in any market, large or small. And Pat Brown seems to be the strongest on weather in this market -- no AMS seal, but it's clear she knows her stuff, and pitch-perfect delivery.

Prior to moving here we were always an NBC family -- having come from a market where the NBC owned/operated station was one of the most dominant local affiliates in the country, with a fat news budget to match -- so it's been a little disappointing to find the NBC o/o station here to be almost unwatchably bad. But maybe we caught them on an off-week. Local Fox was similarly cringe-worthy the one or two times I flipped over there.

CBS 8 is pretty solid on the whole, though seemingly low on the "team chemistry" component. Best graphics in the market though, IMHO.

Haven't had a chance to watch the CW newscast -- our little digital antenna won't pick that channel up for some reason -- even though it gets KTLA out of L.A.!

BTW, if you haven't seen him -- the new evening weather guy on K U S I, Mark Mathis, is a hoot. I saw him last year working mornings in El Paso, and a long time ago doing evenings in Charlotte. Worth YouTubing some of his antics in those cities if you're into local news bloopers.

And finally, as some folks have mentioned -- the most interesting thing in watching the various local news channels is to observe their worldviews. I won't call anyone out specifically on one side or another but it's very clear in watching coverage of such topics as minimum wage, bike lanes, etc. Also, I'll take a dollar for every time a mention is made of someone being arrested "FOR" murdering/robbing/raping X, which they tell you in Journalism 101 never to do since the "for" implies automatic guilt.

It's too much if it bleeds it leads, but that's the same in most other cities as well. It gets pretty old fast seeing the same film clips over and over, like the same ads. The news here seems to have a tendency to be cheerleaders for the Chamber of Commerce and careful not trip on the shoestrings of the powers that be or sponsors, more than a community watchdog on a local level. There are stories I read about in City Beat that should be covered on the news.

I'll agree with much of what has been said about ****, but I don't take it seriously.
