If I decide on the Covina office I've been looking at the Rancho Cucamonga area, schs seem ok there. But reading about SD being a great place to raise a family so I'd really like to be in that area. In a house! not a condo.. But as I said before we will rent first in whatever area we move to. I would just like for it to be an area that we can also buy in when we feel comfortable w/o moving our kids from sch to sch.

And we may go higher on the house (350maybe) depending on what my husbands finds. He works for the city here which pays well but doesnt travel.

350k really (I consider) starter home territory for San Diego. To live in a reputable school district here for that price the house would be ~1200 sq feet and built in the 60s or 70s, which isnt necessarily a bad thing.
However, by national standards I presume that size to be relatively small based on newer construction in newer exurb or suburbs in say... the greater Dallas area. I have been to a friends townhouse in Las Colinas, (suburb of Dallas) and it was bigger or the same size a house here in SD.
I think this is some of the 'sticker shock' that folks have.
Of course you can go buy a home in a school district that is 'pretty good' like in La Mesa or Grossmont, but those districts dont get much mention.
Those areas you may get a slightly larger house with a backyard.

I've posted in the Sanbernardino/Riverside county forum...not much response there but my family lives in that area and I've visited several times. I would prefer the SD area for change and it just seems more family friendly..not even sure why I think that way. It just feels right. I work for the Government and in doing research I found that there's also an office in Corona which mapped out to be 34miles from Murr... However no transfers to that office currently, ugh! choices , choices...

I really appreaciate everyone chiming in with such great advice!! many many thanks!

Ouch! that just makes Murrieta sound even better, oh if it was just 30miles closer. For 350k in the following suburbs...Frisco (Dallas), Alpharetta(Atlanta) and of course here in an OK suburb you'd get at least 3000SF or more and in the top rated schs!

That's hard to swallow.
