law degree and can't find a job
Hi ,
I would like to know if anyone has any ideas where I could find a job....I have just graduated Ca western law school, I have taken the bar and awaiting results...
Every where I look they all want 2-5 years experience...
so where are you to get it if no one wants to hire you?
Any suggestions?
Thanks for any help

Apply for Federal, State and City government jobs. You will gain experience, have excellent job security and a great retirement package. And it is less competitive than private sector,

Look outside CA. This is a tough market for everything. Including jobs.

Work for free for a short time. How about an internship? You are still waiting to get your results to see how you did on the bar exam. I think you need to show them what your made of. There is a true story about a small firm in my area that had this woman show up and she wouldn't leave untill she had a job. She plead her case and her boss hired her. That woman didn't even have a law degree. You know her by the movie that tells a true story about the woman. Her name is Erin Brokovich. That story isn't just some script that was printed up one day. You on the other hand have a degree. You accomplished something that even Erin hasn't done yet. Find your fisrt choice in a law firm and write that down. Then your next choice and add that to the list. Make a list of the top 25 firms in the area that you want to work for. Visit your first 5 choices and work them till they give you a case to work on. Show them that you will do anything that you can to get the job done. I bet you will land that job you want.

Look for clerk, legal secretary, and paralegal jobs. There are a ton. Then you open the door and gain experience. My wife clerked during school, so after she takes the bar in July, she has options to go back where she clerked, or use the clerking experience for a different firm. Craigslist.org has quite a few, others probably do too. Good luck

I'm from San Diego...the job market has always SUCKED there. I moved to NYC momentarily...don't care much for it..but the bills are paid..and even over here , in the last year...the economy has just gone further down the drain...less jobs.

Wow
I would apply to everything and hope for the best. I've been there dude (or dudette), and it sucks. Consider applying and relocating to a place that people generally wouldn't want to live (i.e. someplace hot and dusty) - with the plan of getting some experience and then later rejoining society.
I'm still bitter from my post-law school job hunt process. Try not let it get you down, it is a universal truth that people treat young lawyers like absolute crap. You're in a bad place - can't find a job in law, too qualified to wash dishes. Truth is you will be a better lawyer for it - hardened, bitter and angry makes for a good legal counsel.[/font]

Did you do any internship work while still in law school? If you did an internship start there - nework your old contacts. Find out where your fellow alumni have found work. Also don't limit yourself to SD.
